He likes a girl, but doesn't know how to talk to her. She's probably one of those vain, stuck-up girls, who are disgusted by the... odd, nerdy guys. And maybe, when he talks near her, he sounds like one of the odd guys, talking nonsense, like you see on tv alot. xD That's my guess.

Also, the fact that he is so in awe of this girl doesn't help. In the line "but the way i talk when i'm speaking near her she must think i crawled out of the sea today " I think about how when you like someone you tend to make a fool of yourself trying to impress them...yeah Love the song

He is in awe of this girl whenever she is in sight. he gets nervous and doesnt know how to talk infront of her. he is at lost for words when is is speaking to her. He is gonna try his best to make her look at him. "but she smiles at herself in mirrors a little too often these days maybe i'm unbalanced" This girl is probally stuck up and thinks to much of herself. She thinks he is abostly nothing and doesnt pay attention to him which leaves Gary with low self easteem and a little unbalanced. He's seen a girl that is way beyon his petty little league and just has teenage kicks about her. Oh my god she's get it up her backside...thats what hes trying to say. Not a deep hidden meaning, just a message about how guys think.

It's sad to think, that on our petty little thing we like to call Earth, we feel like this about people. Walking down the street, you always see someone that interests you, or you're attracted to. But (or at least if you're as insecure and unconfident and overanalytical as me) you never will approach them. This song is about a kid, you can tell that in the way it's written.
