Why ‘Snow Patrol’? They were forced to change when an identically-christened American band (fronted by Eric Avery, the ex-bassist of Jane's Addiction, fact fans) threatened to sue. When the official caution reached Jeepster HQ, the label's MD, one Mark Jones, phoned the band to deliver the bad news, a moment caught forever on the intro to Little Hide.

Hi Gary. Hi Jonny. Err Mark here. Just calling up because I’ve just been speaking to Rankin and he’s going to send me a fax tomorrow that he’s received from America regarding the use of the name Polarbear. They want to sue us or make sure that we basically don’t ever use the name again. But I’ll speak to you later about this. Sorry to drop the bombshell.

Within 24 hours however, a new name had been found, thanks to a friend of Gary and Mark's shite memory. Never able to remember the name of his chums' band, it was one man's off-the-cuff remark that made way for the moniker we know and love today. Mark explains: "We've got this mate, who's just a bit mad, and he goes, "What's your band's name again? Snow Patrol"? And we were like, "No, don't be silly, it's Polar Bear!" Then the next day we got the phone call through and we went "hmmm…sounds okay to me". It only took us about two minutes to change."

he's in love with someone...to the point of almost obsession or torture. it kinda sounds like a stalker...anyone agree?

yeh its quite sinister rly. he knows that his behaviour makes the girl uncomfortable but carries on. still top tune!

and when he says 'little hide' i can just imagine some creepy stalker setting up a little camp by your house watching you without you knowing. urgh. guess i jus hav a vivid imagination...

Although it sounds really creepy I like to think of Gary Lightbody as just being overly romantic

May sound creppy but its actually just the desperation and anxiety you face when you need to be with someone.

Well, the title LITTLE HIDE i think says it all. From most of Gary's songs you can tell that he is trying so deeply to get through to a girl. It's the same with this. 'stares that i hold far too long, of course i know that it is wrong, but deep down inside i know you like it.' My personal opinion, i think Gary likes a girl that doesn't like him, or she is being in denial about her feelings for him as it says, 'but deep down inside i know u like it.' Love is a deep thing, so maybe Gary isn't overly romantic, perhaps he has just deeply fell in love. Because Gary loves the girl so much and she doesn't show the same feelings back, the only way for him to escape or numb the pain is to create a LITTLE HIDE for himself, which i think we could say we all have. 'I cant wait to get to bed, not so i can rest my head it means i can dream of you more in my little hide.'

Gary is in a way saying that his bed is his little world of escape with his dreams etc... thinking logically, when someone doesn't like us back in a romantic way, even subconcsiously we start to create a world of escape, a little hide where we pretend they like us cause of the rejection and pain we feel.

This is one of the greatest SP songs ever! Shame it didnt chart. Gary's phrasing is just incrediblle! When he sings "I've been with her once or twice..." there's a pause, and then "IN MY DREAMS..." really clever!
