Seven Thirty Seven/Shoe Glue Lyrics
Down the street, around the corner
Over the bridge, that dirty water
College campus, mighty minds and a reactor right behind
Passed the candy factory, Salvation Army
Fire station through the square
I hate that place up the stairs
Next the doors, they never work I never let that bother me
And I hope some worker's not disgruntled
I hope there's something there for me
An old man reads the paper loudly everyday now for a year
Stamp machines and wanted posters here again, again I'm here
Now it's 737 almost everyday!
737 well I want you to say!
737 and everyday!
737 almost everyday!
Nice to know that someone hears us
It's good to know somebody's there
Taking the time to say hello
Taking the time to show you care
Write again and thanks again from the bottom of my heart
See you soon and till then 737 is a real big part
I've been down the last time, stretchin the finish line
Shoe glue what can I do?
A man's not well dressed if his shoes are a mess
Rock and Roll I've got a hole right in my sole
Let's rock! It's fucking my walk and soaking my sock
Who knew? It's not stopping my step or stepping my stop
We've got it up and we won't let it drop
Beer here, don't wanna see clear
I see no point in wrecking the joint
We're here to quench our thirst a bit
But we won't get the worst of it
Turn it up more than a notch
Like a punch to the face or a kick to the crotch
All night never ender benefiting from a bender
I f nothing's worrying you, that's the key
Cause nothing's worrying me
And nothing's worrying me...
Over the bridge, that dirty water
College campus, mighty minds and a reactor right behind
Passed the candy factory, Salvation Army
Fire station through the square
I hate that place up the stairs
And I hope some worker's not disgruntled
I hope there's something there for me

i loved this song for as long as i can remeber. I never understood what it means for a while. The first half is describing a daily journey to the Bosstones' 737 PO Box (no longer in existence). The rest changes gears and probably is about some inside joke. Now if i can only get my hands on a 737 hockey jersey...
I like description of his trip, you can pretty much follow him by the map...
"Over the bridge, that dirty water"...this is prob the Harvard Bridge aka Mass Ave. The trip probably starts in Boston (the song Toxic Toast mentions some of the MMBT lived on Queensbury in the fens).
"College Campus, mighty minds"...prob. refers to MIT "A reactor right behind"...theres a nuclear reactor lab at MIT on Albany St.
"Past the candy factory"...I think this might be Necco. According to their wiki they had a historic bldg in Cambridge that was taken over by Novartis, which is omnipresent in Central Sq.
"Salvation Army, Fire station"...Both are around Mass ave and Main
"Through the Square, i hate that place"...Probably referring to Central Sq, not Harvard. Central is kinda dirty, lotsa bums b/c of the nearby methadone clinics.
"Up the stairs!"...there's a post office right past central if you're going north. Corner of Inman and Mass ave.
i have a 737 hockey jersey. its awsome
As mentioned here, 737 was their fan-mail PO BOX. "737 still lives and gives" was something they used to say a lot. The Bosstones were always good to their fans.
I think this song is about the Bosstones appreciation for their fans and friends. --"Nice to know that someone hears us It's good to know somebody's there"
and back to the fact that 737 was their fan mail po box... --"Taking the time to show you care Write again and thanks again from the bottom of my heart See you soon and till then 737 is a real big part"
Again, its about the band's appreciation for their fans and the fact that they'd actually go and check the PO Box and respond.
"shoe glue, what can i do, a man is not well-dressed if his shoes are a mess." --The bosstones always dressed up given the ska, punk, skate and hardcore influences on the band. They've said in interviews something like "if you're going to do a show, you should dress like you care." or something like that. So imagine, going across town to check the mail and your dress shoes get dirty from the Boston downtown streets.
