I'm Trying Lyrics
Four-year-old at play
Shot and killed today
Never even had a chance
Seventeen and high
Threw away his life
Has a gun to feel like he's a man
Can't have it any other way
Laying in the street
Asking for a drink
Doesn't have a place to live
Pregnant at thirteen
Still can hear the screams
Something that she never will forget
Can't have it any other way
I'm trying to open my mind
So you can keep your faith
And I'll just walk away
There's no reason for me to stay
I'm trying to open my mind
I'm trying to make my mind
Shot and killed today
Never even had a chance
Seventeen and high
Threw away his life
Has a gun to feel like he's a man
Can't have it any other way
Asking for a drink
Doesn't have a place to live
Pregnant at thirteen
Still can hear the screams
Something that she never will forget
Can't have it any other way
And I'll just walk away
There's no reason for me to stay
I'm trying to make my mind

Such a sad, but true and meaningful song. A beautiful one.
werd mothafuckas...it's a good one
its a great song, the lyrics are just amazing and deep, and his voice is beautiful in this song
i love this song, loved it since my junior of high school, shit that was back in 99. Can't get enough of this song!
This song has to do with members of the band who struggle to believe in God when they see all the bad that happens to people. It can be painful to keep faith and not turn away from people who hurt and won't change (can't have it any other way). Acknowledging a person's pain and suffering and staying with that person through the pain and suffering are 2 different things. The first is hard enough and takes an open mind. The second can seem impossible and takes an open heart.
