Breathe In Lyrics

I read you
And God, I'm good at it
I'm so spot on
Chord, shapes in air
Go press that dissonance
If you dare

And you, breathe it in
Finesse an innocent
From her partying

And I'm high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
And I'm high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling

'Cause I love you, no
Can't help but love you, no

What part of no don't you understand?
I've told you before
To just get off my case
This isn't happening
Stop this now
And I, where was I?
I have to be somewhere
(Now, where did I put it...)

And I'm high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
And I'm high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
'Cause I love you, no
Can't help but love you, no

Is this it?
Is this it?
Is this it?

Yes, hello, we're back!
And we're taking calls
Now what was the question?

And I'm high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
And I'm high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
'Cause I love you, no
Can't help but love you, no...

Aaah yes, drugs -the ultimate cop-out answer. This song is clearly not about taking drugs. Yes SOME of the lyrics relate to them but that isn't what the song is about.

I think it's about a relationship which the singer finds either painful or destructive or whatever. She would like to get out of it but is addicted. She questions whether she actually loves this person but admits to not being able to help loving them.

Verse two is her trying to avoid the person and making excuses about having to be somewhere.

Quite an abstract song which we can all get our own meanings from. But I highly doubt it's about drugs. Just because a song has drug references and metaphors doen't mean it is about taking drugs.

Breathe in, is about a girl who has feeling for her friend. She knows him so well, they are close friend, so she also know he has feeling for other woman (the partying girl?).

Somehow, maybe the man start to notice her feeling, but she denied it, she don't want to ruin the friendship. It's like -I rather be your friend, than to never see you again-- She started to act, to hide her feeling, she become someone she's not used to be

Where was I? I have to be somewhere Now, where did I put it? she can't put old self together again.

Is this it? i think refers to, -only friend- status..she expect more, but she's to afraid to gain it. She thinks she is happy enough by loving him (waiting) without hoping him to have the same feeling.

funny now that i want to post meaning for her other song (Imogen Heap - Goodnight & Go) and i think this song have the similar meaning, the difference is, breathe in tells more about her feeling and denial, while goodnight & go tells more about the scene and the story.it's my personal judgement though.. is this it = goodnight and go...

Ahhh I'm sick of people saying every bloody song relates to drugs!! Half the Coldplay songs are apparently drug-related. Annoys me to no end.

I"m following this love theory, too. It sounds much more plausible and MUCH more interesting.

I think most of you hit it with the love theory. I do think that shes been waiting for him, and its built up this immense high inside her that she feels if he were to come to her, she could ride on his breath and release her surpressed emotions

I don't think this song is about drugs or rape, I always thought it was pretty damn romantic! But maybe that's just because I think it's the best make up/out song ever :)

Although, Imogen Heap is too pretty dammit! And her voice....humph.

Are people on songmeanings.net actually complaining about drug-related interpretations? Every other comment on this site is "omg i love this song its about a [person] who loves this [other person] but can't tell him omg its just like my life".

People write songs about things other than love and relationships, you know. But the I/you voice is the easiest to write in for most songwriters, and anthropomorphism is extremely accommodating to any and all subject matter and is also very universal and expected, hence, most songs sound like they are about other people, relationships and love.

My take on 'Breathe In'--

The song is about drugs--or rather, one particular drug: nicotine. Anyone who's been a serious smoker, especially those predisposed to romanticizing inanimate objects, feelings and the like, can take that away from this song.

This song is not about any hard drugs, the tone is too welcoming and forgiving. Meth and Heroin addicts don't look back at their addictions like old friends. Hard drugs like that ravage you, physically and mentally, in a relatively short amount of time. Even people who loved doing them absolutely loathe what those drugs have done to their minds and bodies.

Cigarettes are different. They're dangerous, for sure, but are much more slow and insidious. They're like a good friend who's constantly asking to borrow money, a dollar here, a ten spot there. Not enough to bankrupt you, usually not enough to think about. But over time, years and years, they've taken so much and never repaid and you realize that it will only get worse, the amounts only to increase. And yet you still can't quit them, because they are a friend, a loyal friend.

Any how, this song reminds me of the inner monologue a smoker has when thinking about cigarettes, thinking about quitting, weighing the pros and cons, as they were.

"And I'm high enough from all the waiting To ride a wave on your inhaling"

I'll only quote this couplet 'cause the whole line-by-line thing gets old, but this is the perfect way to explain the time between cigarettes.

I think this song is about battling the temptation of infidelity. She knows she has a very strong attraction to this person and is basically begging him to not continuing pursue her because she doesn’t feel like she can stop herself.

i love this song but i dunno what this means?? SOMEBODY HELP!?

" I'm high enough from all the waiting
to ride a wave on your inhaling "

"I'm high enough from all the waiting to ride a wave on your inhaling" This is simply describing the high people get when they anxiously wait or desire a person; can lead to sexual desires. She says shes had enough waiting and stalling probably for sex or just to have him. "Ride a wave on your inhaling" meaning laying on him while he inhales etc. haha. She feels that she wants to have him... Its pretty literal.
