A Rose For Emily Lyrics
Might this song have something to do with emily dickinson? It probably doesn't, but she was a recluse and a horticulturist.
No, the song was based on a short story titled "A Rose For Emily." It's a good read.

The summer is here at last THE SUMMER OF LOVE, 1967 The sky is overcast CONTRAST: NO LOVE And no one brings a rose for Emily NO ONE = THE WRITER OF THE SONG, WHO EITHER VISITS WITHOUT ANYONE KNOWING, OR THE GRAVE (DEATH) IS KEPT FROM PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE
She watches her flowers grow THE DEAD ONE’S PERSPECTIVE. FROM UNDER THE EARTH, LOOKING UP SHE SEES FLOWERS GROWING OUT OF HER GRAVE: HER FLOWERS While lovers come and go To give each other roses from her tree DURING HER LIFE SHE HAD MANY SO-CALLED LOVERS WHO THREW AROUND MONEY OUT OF HER PURSE, (ACT LIKE LOVERS BUT RIP HER OFF HER MONEY) But not a rose for Emily... “NOBODY LOVES YOU WHEN YOU”RE SIX FEET UNDER GROUND”
Emily, can't you see There's nothing you can do? NOW YOU’RE DEAD There's loving everywhere ITS THE SUMMER OF LOVE But none for you... AND YOU”RE MISSING OUT
Her roses are fading now HER MONEY HAS BEEN NEARLY SPENT She keeps her pride somehow HER PRIDE OF ENDING THE LYING BY DYING, POSSIBLY OF BEING GAY. That's all she has protecting her from pain PRIDE, YET BEING DEAD
And as the years go by She will grow old and die PEOPLE WILL FORGET HER The roses in her garden fade away THE GRAVE FORGOTTEN Not one left for her grave Not a rose for Emily...
Emily, can't you see There's nothing you can do? There's loving everywhere But none for you...
Her roses are fading now She keeps her pride somehow That's all she has protecting her from pain
And as the years go by She will grow old and die The roses in her garden fade away Not one left for her grave Not a rose for Emily...
***SPOILER OF YOUR LIFE ALERT****
Another one about James Paul McCartney, who may or may not have commited suicide in sep ‘66 because the everso growing amount of lies became too huge for him to live with: being gay plus suicidal from at least since his 14th (after his mother’s passing), being the biggest act in one of the biggest businesses in lies of all. Then the obsessive, passionate eventually unanswered, yet randomly answered love, a tremendous ten years of inner loniness and guilt complex, and finally coming to discover to have been ripped off by the last person he may have trusted in the end, finding out to not even own what was the one thing he lived for: his poems and his music. See for others songs about James Paul McCartney and his relationships the lyrics of “Ruby Tuesday” (also referenced to as “Stupid Bloody Tuesday” in another song, and every beatle song i could find so far. The word SHE=PAUL, HE=. )…
Bizarre interpretation, right? Too bad there’s no option “My Imagination”, lol
“IMAGINATION must be OUT THERE! TRUTH must end ;)”
Did anyone ever read that short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner? I felt I had to defend the crazy old lady to defend the name. To all the Emilys out there: you rock!! (spell out moe...sounds like Emily...heh heh...so clever..)
Hey MOE... I've read that Faulkner story. Good stuff. So is this song. And so is our name. Go Emilys! :)
so then is this song about that story>?
I think they borrowed this melody from The Beatles' "For No One."
the story is creepy, i highly suggest you read it, although here's a hint: necrophilia.
No this song has nothing to do with the short story, A Rose For Emily. Rod Argent had been reading the William Faulkner short story A Rose For Emily but he liked the way the title sounded but again; it has nothing to do with how the song was written. The song actually was written almost randomly. I read that Rod let the story build up from nothing. Letting the lines follow themselves.
many artists during this the time erra this was created had melodies that sounded like the beatles, as they were the #1 pop band. Funny thing is.. modern pop music has no melody at all.
I love the story, and i kind of wish the song was about it.
