this is my favorite song by my favorite band. period. so, so beautiful, lyrically and musically.
I don't know, but here's my best guess-
This guy did as much as he could, lived, you could say, for this girl who doesn't seem to realize what he did for her. Or she does, but ignores him as if it was something to be expected. He, then, is completely lost, having given everything he had for what is now a lost cause.

I think it is just about a relationship ending over a disagreement. Cool imagery
