A dead start in my head
And the day's been laid
The things i really want
Always torn from my heart
You never saw the way
How i wanted you to stay
And now you're gone
I'm on my own
When i was thinking this
Was something permanent
You were already thinking
Of going away
And the day's been laid
The things i really want
Always torn from my heart
You never saw the way
How i wanted you to stay
And now you're gone
I'm on my own
When i was thinking this
Was something permanent
You were already thinking
Of going away

Easily one of the most depressing and powerful songs on Discouraged Ones.
This song seems that everything always goes wrong with this one person and he loses hope in everything. Until finally he meets someone and a there is a spark of happiness in his life, but it is cut short because that person leaves. I dunno, just what i think.
I always saw it as a song about an ended relationship, where the narrator wasn't aware of that it was ending.
Particularly the last part.
"When I was thinking this was something permanent, you were already thinking of going away".
Reminds me of an ex of my own. I was thinking about proposing to her, looking at engagement rings, and one day I find out that she's been planing to break up for months, but didn't want to drop the bomb until she had found a new place to live etc.
yeah u're right LP444ever... it's a really nice and sad song.
These lyrics tell about a person who loses faith in life
