Come and hear my twisted lies, the way I bend and falsify
A master of deception, user of an untrue smile
A rapist of the truth, adapting it to fit my cause
I'm the human lie, a sad composition of all things vile
Come and read my tainted lies. Lies.
Come see my wretched, tainted mind
Bury, cover up, repress. I betray the people I "possess"
What ever enemy - I'll disable with mendacity
I make my way, extend my ground, I clear my future-path
When it comes to joys, manipulation is my game of choice
How I shine. I ...
The perfect freak. Confide in me
Me... Believe in me
My intentions soon you will see
The sway of my scheme, imposed upon all
Come follow me, my puppets to be,
I'll attach my strings, manipulation begins
SANE ME
SANE ME
SANE ME
SANE ME
I'm the way, I'm the truth
Gather with me, I'm the future guide
SANE ME
SANE ME
SANE ME
SANE ME
Gather with me, Join my ministry
I'm the way, the future guide
I'm the self-acclaimed god of wicked games
Sinister, repugnant bringer of pain
A master of deception, user of an untrue smile
A rapist of the truth, adapting it to fit my cause

I think that this song is about humans and their subconcious desire for power over others. The belief in personal superiority is a genetic trait which would definitely be continued to the next generation. There is no difference between sanity and insanity because all anyone ever knows is 'me'
I interpret this song to be about how it's unfortunately very rational to act only for your own gain. It's completely "Sane" to manipulate, deceive and betray people, if a given maximum in life is to always act for your own gain. Hence the anguish with which the chorus is sung. It's sort of painful sarcasm (the whole song actually).
This. "Sane" seems to be about how natural it is for us to lie if it serves our purpose.

Not all songs have to god damn do with religion. Often Meshuggah songs have to do with actual things, like...Psychopaths! This song is about a psychopath, who uses lies to get what they want when they want, and they could care less if people are harmed. Bam. Stop blaming religion and religious people. Leave those ranting hypocrites alone...lol.
To me it's a song about betrayel. This person lies to, uses and abuses people and has no problem in doing so. The first line reminds me of a carnival, how they call out to you to get your interest in coming over to their stall. He's admitting to his faults but has no problem in hiding them... either that or he's remembering how many people he has fucked up and is admitting his flaws to himself.
When I read the lyrics to this, I immediately thought of one thing; organized religion. It's saying how religious leaders use their position and power to manipulate people and to get what they want.
"A rapist of the truth, adapting it to fit my cause" I think this line in particular talks about how so many higher-ups in the catholic church molest the words of the bible, and tweak them to justify their own actions and desires. For instance, the abuse of dogma, and the whole paying the church to atone for dead relatives in purgatory. It's all manipulation and scheming.
In short, they're saying organized religion sucks. And I agree 110%!
Holy crap, this is the most aggressive song I've ever heard... Definitely the most pounding song on the whole album. I already feel exausted after listening to it for one minute.
As for it's meaning, like others said I think this song is obviously about manipulation and brainwashing. Misuse within organized religion indeed seems well fit for this song (although I have no idea where the "SAAAAAANE!!!!!!!!! MEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!" part fits in).
Also, I think the lines
"Come and hear my twisted lies, the way I bend and falsify A master of deception, user of an untrue smile A rapist of the truth, adapting it to fit my cause"
"Bury, cover up, repress. I betray the people I "possess" What ever enemy - I'll disable with mendacity I make my way, extend my ground, I clear my future-path When it comes to joys, manipulation is my game of choice"
"My intentions soon you will see The sway of my scheme, imposed upon all Come follow me, my puppets to be, I'll attach my strings, manipulation begins"
are a great description of president Bush jr. and his 'War On Terror'.
The beginning of this song is so explosive! It just forces my head to bang. I can't sit still when I'm listening to this. Meshuggah rocks \m/
i'm pretty sure its just about deciet, betrayal, lying, blah blah. but when sane me comes into it it seems more like some1 wanting to be fixed, much like the medicine idea. however, as for the religion idea, meshuggah don't really go down that line, i think u just really hate cristians and chatholics and your mind is making this into a song about anti religion. ....lol
It could be about the idea of believing in a God is almost as insane as believing in an imaginary friend.
Pretty sure this whole album is about organized religion, and the idea of having our souls forcibly replaced by something 'divine'; ie. machinery in a sense. New Millennium Cyanide Christ is the perfect window to this album.
