Assimilate Lyrics
oil removes shred, tear
radiation, vapor air
it's the fear, so unclear
man in motion, going nowhere
in our homes, stuck in your face
spreads the dirt to populace
yellow journal, yellow journal
set the pace, feel the rage
manifestations of a sort
so insidious off the point
simple solution, never confused
sport a gun, kill a cop
crazy world of weary thought
so recieve me had enough
lock me up, lock me up
rot and assimilate
hot to annihilate (tear your face)
rot and assimilate
so hot to annihilate (hit with mace)
deviation tonic mess
prolonged existence in a sense
see he who speaks isn't weak
wheelchair future so to speak
bubonic plague, the truth of a.i.d.s.
community avoids decay
in the trench of pestilence
the bible screams 'announce you faith'
mutterings of death to bring
suffocate a newborn thing
degradation of an age
veneral, it's all sensation
protect design, the moral plan
infallable as propaganda
completely black
with no steps back
hot to assimilate (go nowhere)
rot or annihilate (tell yourself)
hot to assimilate (search your soul)
we'll rot or annihilate
agony, the inner thinking brain
clanking change
growing pain
mutterings of death to bring
suffocate a new born thing
degradation of an age
venereal, it's all sensation
protect design, the moral plan
infallable, no propaganda
completely black
with no steps back
agony profusely stains
the inner thinking of the brain
accusations clanking change
experiments with groans of pain
it's all preferred that no one blames
the terror in an animals screams
in cages our future
the answers insane
Rot and assimilate
(show no faith)
So hot to annihilate
(each adds assimilate)
Rot and assimilate
(each one assimilates)
So hot to annihilate
reach for an airway
our own death
radiation, vapor air

All at once, this high energy piece speaks of crumbling and decaying society, and makes you want to do something about it...the question is what? My favorite Skinny Puppy tune.
Now this is a song.
To me this song sounds like something you'ld hear to psyche up a crowd at a football game. Very intense music with forboding lyrics. Unlike others like "worlock" or "killing game", this song seems to encapsulate the the final stage of a declining society. Yeah, that can be said about alot of their songs, but the insensity is raw and unforgiving. Its as if the songwriter describes the final moments before a society crumbles back into primitive traits.
This song is a prime example by Skinny Puppy is such a kick-ass, talented band. A great, stompy song.
I like the way they compare us to the animals that we experiment on......I'm a new fan.....
"hot to assimilate"
:D
Oh and I love the background beat during the chorus.
This is one of the first songs they made together and they obviously wanted to show what the band was all about. Part of showing the decline of a society is to first focus on one issue (animal testing and cruelty; this is where they got their name) and then branch out from there to view the rest as a whole.
Ogre sees the world progressing into devastation and it's not taking any steps back (also showing how despite our progress we're still just as odious and beastial as the caveman or the very animals men test "man in motion/going nowhere"), and he hates it so much, he wants to be locked away from it. But all one really can do in order to keep from dying is to adapt, or be assimilated, but I'm not sure that's what they're going to accept by the very concept and feeling that this song gives off.
I'll agree with what most of Darkmoose is saying. I'm a long time Puppy fan. Ogre is awesome! Both on the music stage and on the movvie stage! (Repo! The Genetic Opera) Now, for Ogre's answer to what to do about the assimilation, he says it at the end of the song.
"Reach for an airway.

Basically, with everything pressuring people to belong in today's society, the only way one could possibly breathe, is to die. Not saying he's telling everyone to commit suicide, but he's saying that we need to break away from the cycle of "Rotting, or assimilating." We need to break away dependence on the factories and work to a higher purpose. As of this point, as Ogre sees it, is that all the 'progress' we've done as a society has only been to live and grow. Hence the bit about going no where. So yeah..Awesome song.
i think i would put these guys at the same level as pink floyd. the reason for that would be because there is a meaning you just need to search for it. but unlike all other songs the answer may be in the video. but hats my take. i dont know if it matches any of yours. i just really like this song though. its easily one of my favorites by them.
awesome song! no obvious meaning, but it branches into government, the state of the world etc, but im probably talking shit. lol anyway i need advice im relatively new to skinny puppy, ive only heard this, optimissed and the remix and rodent(ddt mix) so what would you guys recommend? email me or postt
thanks
Hi. I believe this part "Manifestations of a sort so insidious off the point..." is incorrect. It's actually "Manifestations of a sort so insidious off the court..."
