Waiting For The Son Of Man Lyrics
Patience comes to the ugly, not me
laughter comes to the lucky, not me
people in my head that won't stop talking
nothing in my dream that isn't creepy crawling
Walking in the park and I think that I'm falling
swimming in the sea and I think I'll
you guessed it
only lifeguards
only lifeguards
packing all the time ??
can save me
waiting
waiting
waiting
for the son of man
for the son of man
Patience comes to the ugly, not me
concentration comes to the ugly, not me
nothing on the box that hasn't been born
no-one in the street that isn't old
Driving in the car and I think that I'm crashing
swimming in the Sea and I think that I'll
you guessed it
only lifeguards
only lifeguards
packing all the time
can save me
waiting
waiting
waiting
for the son of man
for the son of man
laughter comes to the lucky, not me
people in my head that won't stop talking
nothing in my dream that isn't creepy crawling
swimming in the sea and I think I'll
you guessed it
only lifeguards
only lifeguards
packing all the time ??
can save me

Son of Man is a name for Jesus, and I think he is using the imagery of a savour just like the imagery of the lifeguards.
The song never says he is suicidal, but the song is v discontented and has delusions of disaster and doom.
I think it's about someone on the verge of committing suicide but wanting to be saved or redeemed in some way. Wanted their religion to save them before it's too late. Perhaps putting their religion to the test.
"son of man" / magritte
Instead of 'packing all the time' the lyrics might be 'packing on the tide' seems to make a bit more sense... but i dont think packing really fits. Hmmm...
Anyway i agree this song sounds like its about someone on the verge of committing suicide. Seems to me like theyr looking for a reason not to go through with it, for example when brian sings 'waiting' its as though the person is delaying actually killing themselves.
this song always brings tears to my eyes.
"only lifeguards..." makes me sing it in front of the mirror! And I always shout "YOU GUESSED IT" before Brian!
