Another good song by Placebo. Not one of my faves, but I say the video to this one and it looked like Brian got the girl AND the guy, so...applauds Yay, Bri! Anyway, yes, screen dream, it WAS looped in a car commercial. I was babysitting and the kids were asleep, so I couldn't jump up and scream girlishly like I wanted to. It's great that, even though they don't radio play in the states (atleast they don't where I am), more Americans still listen to them.

They used it during a fight on Hollyoaks (british show). I got up screamed and ran around the room manically. They've aslo used Nancy Boy and Every You Every me, which all provoked the same reaction. And wierd looks from my friends, bless them they just don't understand. I think the song is pretty self-explanatory. But the video is about the different ways one situation can turn out. And Brian manages to get both the girls and the guys which is great. And makes me laugh alot.....hehehehe

Actually, the intro is sampled from the intro to Pink Floyd's "Let There Be More Light"

As for the meaning, here's my two cents. He's with someone who he treats badly (doing nothing on Valentines Day was the clue there lol) and manipluates ("Come back to me awhile") but the cry is that if the lover doesn't like it they ought to change their taste in men. Either that, or its unhappiness with a relationship, and an internal plead with himself to change his own taste in men.

It seems this song is about a girl that is playing both the singer(narrator) and another man.

" Come back to me awhile Change your style again Come back to me awhile Change your taste in men"

Suggests that the men are two very differant people, and to be with each she changes her style - who she is, what she dresses like.

"Dazzled, doused in gin"

Meaning that one is probably rich, and has the girl "dazzled" and is maybe abusing her taking advantage of her in some way.

"I'm killing time on Valentine's" refers to their relationships being on and off, and on a special day he's waiting around for her to come back to him... for awhile

I don't get a love triangle vibe either. I imagine that Brian/the narrator is addressing a guy who hasn't had many same-sex encounters/relationships...maybe the narrator and this guy used to fool around, and now the narrator is trying to persuade him back for another round.

I also think this song would be super hot if covered by a woman, esp. one who is comfortable playing around with gender roles, like PJ Harvey.

This reminds me of reading that Brian Molko was connected some way to PJ Harvey, and that she's known for changing her musical/all style between each album. It could also be about someone who used to like his type, but then changed her preferences. The song feels like they had a casual physical relationship and he hasn't heard from her since they hooked up on Christmas Day, and it's Valentine's Day and he's thinking about her.

I have already analyzed over 140 love songs (see my Westlife Analysis on my website storiesinsongs.com) and I've found out that a weak protagonist who can't fight for what he wants is no one a listener can look to for guidance. Especially in matters of love. This song is a very weak love song and as a first single that is there to represent the album, I don't think it was such a good choice to use this song. After all, in comparison to the last two albums, there's no story told in this song. We just have a pathetic protagonist who's waiting.

Just an andorgynous themed song that's kinda tongue in cheek.

hi! this is the best song ever, i think it´s very clear what it means, it´s a beautiful song, so vulnerable, yet so powerful. there is something about this guy brian, a je ne sais quoi, he´s very atractive. i´m not into this kind of guys, but for him, i sure would change my taste in men!
