Summer's Gone Lyrics
Cue to your face so forsaken
Crushed by the way that you cry
Cue to your face so forsaken
What a surprise
You try to break the mould
before you get too old
you try to break the mould
before you die
Cue to your heart that is racing
stung by the look in your eye
Cue to your heart that is racing
What a surprise
you try to break the mould
before you get too old
you try to break the mould
before you die
Cue your face so forsaken
crushed by the way that you cry
Cue your face so forsaken
Say goodbye
Sing for your lover
Like blood from a stone
Sing for your lover
Who's waiting at home
If you sing when youre high
And youre dry as a bone
Then you must realise
That you're never alone
And you'll sing with the dead instead
You try and break the mould,
before you get too old
you try and break the mould,
before you die
Crushed by the way that you cry
Cue to your face so forsaken
What a surprise
before you get too old
you try to break the mould
before you die
stung by the look in your eye
Cue to your heart that is racing
What a surprise
you try to break the mould
before you get too old
you try to break the mould
before you die
crushed by the way that you cry
Cue your face so forsaken
Say goodbye
Like blood from a stone
Sing for your lover
Who's waiting at home
If you sing when youre high
And youre dry as a bone
Then you must realise
That you're never alone
And you'll sing with the dead instead
before you get too old
you try and break the mould,
before you die

this is probably one of the most beautiful songs ive heard in my life.
music is the ultamite way of connecting with people on a broad scale. its the closest thing to raw emotion that we can trancend as humans. without it, the losesomeness of the world would be overwhelming and suicide would proabably be through the roof. i think this song is just the perfect portrayal of that thought.
depression, lonliness and detatchment can be extrememly painful, but no matter where you are or how you feel, theres always someone who feels what you do. always rememebr that
This song is about an internal struggle, about trying to be true to yourself. There are also some elements of self hatred in here - "crushed by the way that you cry" and "stung by the look in your eye". Being so angry with yourself for being unhappy. The chorus, speaking about how you "try to break the mould, before you get to old" is referring to trying to be yourself while you still have the chance. I think that last whispered bit is just kind of words of encouragement? The rest of the song is more of a narration, but that bit is telling them to hold on. Of course, I could be way off the mark here, but that's how I've always heard this song.
I think this song is about time past. The time is passing and life is stagnant, boring. But there are people there with you, your lover, your friends..in the same boat as you. Just as dead.
The line "sing for your lover like blood from a stone" I think, has something to do with the expression "you can't squeeze blood from a stone" meaning, you can't take from someone who has nothing. and the line "when your high and dry as a bone" I think, means you're high and dry and not necessarily "high" as in drug use. The rest I don't get.
This song reminds me of i guy i know. He is almost 20 and still a "punk rocker". and he tries so hard to be this hard ass. and i had a huge crush on him... and he just made me depressed yet i was drawn to him... i don't know, it may have nothing to do with the song...
this is a brilliant song, how come there are no comments?
Hear, hear... this song is beautiful, acoustically very clever
I play guitar to this :o)
gorgeous.
"sing for your lover like blood from a stone"
For me its about a lover who's been left behind and still holds a candle to her lover, even though its obviously futile ("sing for your lover like blood from a stone"). She thought her love was different (broke the mould) but she found it was just doomed the same. Anyway just my interpretation. ;)
i think this song is about being stuck in a relationship for too long, and no one really has the guts to end it because of the history they have together, so it just self-destructs...it's about trying to break old habits before they become a recurring pattern in your life. placebo are the best band in the whole world.
