Peeping Tom Lyrics

I'm careful not to fall
I have to climb your wall
'Cause you're the one
Who makes me feel much taller than you are
I'm just a peeping tom
On my own for far too long
Problems with the booze
Nothing left to lose

I'm weightless... I'm bare
I'm faithless... I'm scared

The face that fills the hole
That stole my broken soul
The one that makes me seem to feel much taller than you are
I'm just a peeping tom
On my own for far too long
Troubles with the gear
Nothing left to fear

I'm weightless... I'm bare
I'm faithless... I'm scared
I'm weightless... I'm bare
I'm faithless... I'm scared

With every bet I lost
And every trick I tossed
You're still the one who makes me feel much taller than you are
I'm just a peeping tom
On my own for far too long
Problems with the booze
Nothing left to lose

I'm weightless... I'm bare
I'm faithless... I'm scared
I'm weightless... I'm bare
I'm faithless... I'm scared
I'm weightless... I'm bare
I'm faithless... I'm scared
I'm scared
I'm scared
I'm scared
I'm scared

I think EmilyTheStrange analysis is almost perfect :)

Brian said once:

"It's about voyeurism. It's about being a peeping tom. I try in the song to place you inside the head and make you feel the emotions of this voyeur and try and make you feel sympathetic because the only ray of light in this person's life is spying on this one particular person."

It does make you feel sympathetic doesn't it?

The protagonist is mentally sick.

He only feels superior if he watches someone in secret which gives him a feeling of power over that person.

It's all he has left 'I'm weightless, I'm bare. I'm faithless', but what makes the song really interesting is the confession 'I'm scared'.

He has come to the realization that he has nothing left that's worth living for: 'On my own for far too long Problems with the booze Nothing left to lose'.

He had gambled, lost many things, and he knows it's wrong what he's doing, but he can't stop being a peeping Tom because he's scared of what might happen to him once he loses that last bit that lifts him up a little from the ground.

My Interpretation

This song is tragically, tenderly sad. Just that the only time this person feels 'tall' is when they're looking in on the person that they're obsessed with, and the fact that this is all that person has. This song might be less touching and more disturbing and invasive if it wasn't for the

'I'm weightless... I'm bare I'm faithless... I'm scared I'm scared '

lines. Defniately grows on you, see the tour visuals for this if you have the vids DVD.

This song reminds me of when u get all depressed after doin loads of drugs over a long time and u begin to realize that this isn't that path u wanna be walking. You end up spending a lot of time alone and then occasionally going out to raves and partys and taking more drugs and having a "good" time. Then u go back home and just be alone again. Then u start to give into your hope. hence: "I'm weightless... I'm bare I'm faithless... I'm scared"

I think its about him always feeling like crap and only feeling good when he is peeping tom on a certain girl.

I think it's of course about peeping on someone, either girl or guy but realizing how low you really are. I think he's saying how early on he got on the wrong track and now he has nothing left to do but peep on this one person who seems to make his life feel fuller and he feels better about himself while he is peeping.

i kind of see this song as the only time he feels good is when he's taking his drug of choice, that that is the only thing he has to turn too

...fills the hole That stole my broken soul

sigh this song makes me wanna cry though, so so beautiful

I think this song is about being obsessed with somebody, and not being able to have them. All they can do is watch the one they want over their wall. Makes me think of the phrase ''so close and yet so far''... I think the person has just got to the point where they just don't have anything left to loose anymore. They have alcohol and drug problems ''Problems with the booze'' ''Problems with the gear'' and they have just kept telling themself that all they need is this one person. In the second verse i think its realisation of how low they have become and that deep down they know that even if they had this person the world wouldn't be a perfect place. Hence why instead of saying '''Cause you're the one Who makes me feel much taller than you are '' (in the first verse) it says ''The one that makes me seem to feel much taller than you are'' An amazing song...

That's a really nice analogy, EmilyTheStrange.
