Hang On To Your IQ Lyrics
Chinese masseuse, comes between us
talks in haikus, plastic venus.
Got a headrush, in her pocket
two rubbers two lubes, and a silver rocket
Hang on, hang on
to your IQ, to your ID
hang on, hang on
to your IQ, to your ID
I'm lonely
Every morning, my eyes will open wide
I gotta get high, before I go outside.
Roll another, for breakfast
burning clouds around, and in my solar plexus.
Hang on, hang on
to your IQ, to your ID
hang on, hang on
to your IQ, to your ID
I'm lonely
Legs eleven, makes me stay up late
two fat ladies on my back, and now it's 88.
I'm a fool, whose tool is small
it's so miniscule, it's no tool at all.
hang on, hang on
to your IQ, to your ID
hang on, hang on
I'm lonely
Oh
talks in haikus, plastic venus.
Got a headrush, in her pocket
two rubbers two lubes, and a silver rocket
to your IQ, to your ID
hang on, hang on
to your IQ, to your ID
I gotta get high, before I go outside.

to your IQ, to your ID
hang on, hang on
I'm lonely

Brian Molko initially intended this song to be about drugs.. Placebo promote self-esteem and being proud of yourself, this song is basically saying hang onto your IQ: your intelligence; to your ID: whatever that differentiates you from everyone else. It is said that in this world intelligence is of most worth.. Brian obviously values knowledge, and in an interview he says "nothing excites me anymore". Direct quote from an interview: "The state of abandoning yourself to something implies loss of identity. It’s about trying to see your way through whatever’s stopping you from operating in relation to others".
Silver rocket...um...how shall I explain this... a usually vibrating artificial phallus used for sexual pleasure?
About the song:
"Elsewhere, on the deceptively sublime "Hang On To Your IQ'" Molko sings: "I'm a fool whose tool is small / it's so minuscule it's no tool at all", which is a candid confession for any man, nevermind a blossoming rock star. "Well," he explains, "my lyrics reveal the truth about how I feel, and experiences I've had. I don't see why I should be shy and coy and hide behind macho rock posturing. That's not what I'm about."

through everything you go through, remember who you are and what you represent. that's exactly what I think about it. :) but then, you can't deny there ARE drugs refferences in the middle of all that. to me it's a bob dylan-ish kind of thing.. with many characters and each one has a different issues, and the chorus sums all that up.
Hang on, hang on to your IQ, to your ID hang on, hang on to your IQ, to your ID

i know some people dont get this drug reference, but the hang on to your IQ to your ID, it is more about how you get taken away by the drugs, you dont get "rendered stupid" by the drugs if you use them in an enhancing way which is how you think it is being used you know party drug, then it progresses and turns into somehting more serious and messes with everything you valued but anyways yes, sometimes it is such a relief to get a diferent view on your thinking a break from the normal aspect to take an experience that wouldnt normaly come out in your mind it is like exploring outspace, you know you are exploring in your mind places you havent seen sometimes when you are on drugs and it really changes your perspective it helps you learn things in a way but after a while that feeling changes you and it becomes you and you need it more and more and you wake up and realize one day, you know shit, where the hell did i go, what happened to me, all the friends you had vefore arent really so close to you, you dont feel the same way about the things that used to move you, you sort of isolate yourself so that the drugs are your buddy and once you get that lonley you know drugs alcohol sex, they are fillers they are highs in life they are adrenaline you know get your thrills sort of thing
i love this song, i am not going to lie, i am going through a really hard time with drugs and alcohol right now, and if it helps tie things together with the song to i also got around.. alot, with a lot of different people, when i was fucked
and i feel so much listening to this song
seriously stear clear, it makes people twist a little bit in the mind it hurts a LOTT
keep your IQ keep your ID
I know it's been a while, but I'm just writing to say that I hope everything has gone ''well'' for you and that you have found your inner peace or whatever that makes you feel alive and complete. ...Reading what you wrote is like reading my diaries from some years ago.. just that.. and yeah, it does hurt a lot, still, but that's what make us to grow up and to be better people, or at least stronger, if you will. good luck.

Well, this song is obviously about sex. Too much sex, too be exact. Hang on to your IQ would refer to not letting one's "naughty bits" lead one's brain instead of the other way around.
What is a silver rocket?

the pixies had a song.. "Hang on to your Ego"..don't know if that helps.
I always thought this was about drugs. The first two verse bit and then the rest of the song. When he starts singing "Legs eleven..." I thought from then on it referred to all the shit he's gotten into since he started using. "Hang on to your IQ, to your ID" is almost like a warning to not get involved in this world and if you do to keep your ID because the author himself has lost it and now is pretty much numb to many things.
I think its about a guy who loves to get fucked up and have sex but its also because he is lonely, insecure and trapped in the world of drugs and sex.

The first verse- he was in a relationship then went and fucked a chinese masseuse ("chinese masseuse comes between us) who had pills, condoms, lube and a vibrator. Or it could also be a threesome with a chinese masseuse (come between us, two lubes, two condoms. Regardless, he is telling us of some of his experiences, which he also does in the third verse.

The second verse...
The second verse about weed- alotta people who take drugs use weed as a comedown remedy so i think thats what he is doing. I agree with what boomerstyle said. Its a warning to keep thinking and using your brain and making sure you still know who you are as a person because getting caught in the life of drugs and sex is a really vicious trap to get out of once your in too far.
