Bombs Over Broadway Lyrics

Midnight, New York City
Broadway, going up in flames
Ground zero, big city
Big Apple swallowed by the flames

CHORUS -
Bombs away, we never saw it coming
Bombs away, still the bombs started falling
Down, to seal our fate
No time to run now it's too late

Countdown 5-4-3-2-1
The end is near, here it comes
The neon lights of the city burn
And the sirens warn: "Bombs Over Broadway"

Lady Liberty is laid to rest
"Give me liberty or give me death"
Her dream died with her last request
She didn't expect bombs over Broadway

CHORUS

So long Manhattan Island
Our pride in you has no end
New York, New York
Our pride in you has done
Lights out, New York City
You were the first, but you won't be the last

I don't want people to get the wrong impression of this song..this song was written before "everything" happened. What the song means is that when you put so much sinful pride into something man-made (i.e. a city) that it will come tumbling down. Metaphorically, this song describes how bombs are like God - crushing everyone's pride that is put into everything else besides Him.

Indeed, dancebabe, you are right on the money. James 4:6 - "God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble." However, while I know this song originally had NOTHING to do with "everything," I do think that it has an added special significance in respect to that. America as a whole is a prideful nation that thinks it can't be touched, but it is dead wrong.
