This song sounds great but also says a lot about living in a rough inner city environment. The use of irony is quite brilliant and I love the poignant and deeply significant line

The fact it is worth commenting that no one got killed just highlights the tragic nature and inevitability of gang deaths in L.A at that time. Ice Cube spins it beautifully with this great and sometimes humorous track.
This song beautifully captures life in early 90’s Los Angeles black neighborhoods. It’s a subtle commentary and also flows amazingly well from Ice Cube. A good day means playing and partying, but always in the background is the looming threat of violence and injustice. A good day means some basketball, winning at dice, oh yeah and not getting carjacked. It means getting some pussy and getting high and not having to shoot at anyone. It’s driving around in your car, eating burgers, and not finding out that a friend was murdered. It was a crazy time in LA and this song is a snapshot of what it was like to live in a poor, abused, and dysfunctional community. Performed with Ice Cube’s angry scowl and heavy hitting character, this song is a true work of art!
