Bitter Tears Lyrics
Bitter tears keep me goin'
Through the years, freely flowin'
What have you done?
Only a gun could stop these bitter tears
The endless streets I walk along
You made them seem pretty
But now I dream in country songs
And wake in New York City
And the only beauty here
Is the moon seen through the tear
Bitter tears keep me goin'
Through the years, freely flowin'
What have you done?
Only a gun could stop these bitter tears
I cry because it looks so good
I cry, why not, it's free
And there's nothing more interesting
Than crying constantly
And as I tell everyone
Crying all the time is fun
Bitter tears keep me goin'
Through the years, freely flowin'
What have you done?
Only a gun could stop these bitter tears
Through the years, freely flowin'
What have you done?
Only a gun could stop these bitter tears
You made them seem pretty
But now I dream in country songs
And wake in New York City
And the only beauty here
Is the moon seen through the tear
Through the years, freely flowin'
What have you done?
Only a gun could stop these bitter tears
I cry, why not, it's free
And there's nothing more interesting
Than crying constantly
And as I tell everyone
Crying all the time is fun
Through the years, freely flowin'
What have you done?
Only a gun could stop these bitter tears

Great throw-away track. The lyrics in the second verse are hilarious and makes it all worthwhile.
I love the way Stephin Merritt puts terrible heartache into words. It's what you feel but can never say because it's way too over the top. "Only a gun, could stop these bitter tears".
one of life's beautiful contradictions... his bitter tears keep him going...
this sounds like such a dig at morrissey. well i like the smiths so there.
