I Don't Believe In The Sun Lyrics
They say there's a sun in the sky
But me, I can't imagine why.
There might have been one,
Before you were gone
But now all I see is the night.
So I don't believe in the sun
How could it shine down on everyone
And never shine on me?
How could there be,
Such cruelty?
The only sun I ever knew
Was the beautiful one that was you
Since you went away
It's nighttime all day
And it's usually raining too...
So I don't believe in the sun
How could it shine down on everyone
And never shine on me?
How could there be,
Such cruelty?
The only stars there really are
Were shining in your eyes
There is no sun except the one
That never shone on other guys
The moon to whom the poets croon
Has given up and died
Astronomy will have to be revised...
I don't believe in the sun
How could it shine down on everyone
And never shine on me?
How could there be,
Such cruelty?
But me, I can't imagine why.
There might have been one,
Before you were gone
But now all I see is the night.
How could it shine down on everyone
And never shine on me?
How could there be,
Such cruelty?
Was the beautiful one that was you
Since you went away
It's nighttime all day
And it's usually raining too...
How could it shine down on everyone
And never shine on me?
How could there be,
Such cruelty?
Were shining in your eyes
There is no sun except the one
That never shone on other guys
The moon to whom the poets croon
Has given up and died
Astronomy will have to be revised...
How could it shine down on everyone
And never shine on me?
How could there be,
Such cruelty?

you could be the happiest person in the world, and would still be brought down by this song. stephen merritt's voice was made to depress people. i love him.
it is a bit of a depressing voice... so low!
no offense, but his name is spelled Stephin.
And yes he does have a gorgeous voice. I just wish more people knew about the Magnetic Fields. They are one of the best indie-pop bands ever who seem to only be appreciated by indie-hipsters or grad students.
@vincent h. that's ok. i forgive you

haha
i agree
this song is fantastic. it completely kills the romance of love i have found. it's great. i'm quite fond of it.
oh man, Stephin merritt has a very deep/meloncholy voice, but he can hold some very long notes...
This isn't completely depressing, or maybe it's just me that see's all the bittersweetness of his songs. These are the best kind of love songs, for that's what it is and you would be a fool to think otherwise. Splendidly clever lyrics avoiding the subject by pointing elsewhere. It's an art.
One of my favourite magnetic field songs...it's got such a longing to it.
Reminds me of "Who Loves the Sun" by the Velvet Underground
A great cut off of a great album. I think this track in particular is a great summation of Stephin's singing and songwriting. If I had one song to describe the band to someone, it would probably be this one.
