I think this song means he tried to get back with an old girlfriend, even just to be friends, and all it did was make him hurt more. He knows he shouldnt have called her and obviously this song was his way of reminding himself of that. Probably wrong but thats what im going through and it feels like all im doing is 'watching my own eyes turn blood red'
