Never Talking To You Again Lyrics
There are things that I'd like to say
But I'm never talking to you again
There's things I'd like to phrase some way
But I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you
I'm tired of wasting all my time
Trying to talk to you
I'd put you down where you belong
But I'm never talking to you again
I'd show you everywhere you're wrong
But I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you
I'm tired of wasting all my time
Trying to talk to you
(Talking to you)
I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you
I'm tired of wasting all my time
Trying to talk to you
But I'm never talking to you again
There's things I'd like to phrase some way
But I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you
I'm tired of wasting all my time
Trying to talk to you
But I'm never talking to you again
I'd show you everywhere you're wrong
But I'm never talking to you again
I'm never talking to you
I'm tired of wasting all my time
Trying to talk to you
(Talking to you)
I'm never talking to you
I'm tired of wasting all my time
Trying to talk to you

This song's pretty self-explanatory. It's about being so frustrated with someone that you just decide to cut them off forever. IMO, it's the ultimate cathartic insult to deliver to someone - to tell them that they are simply no longer worth knowing. And that's why this song is so good.
blanksets_stare, I think you are reading way too much into a very straightforward song. And it's not a Bob song, it's a Grant song.
I love this song. One of my favorite Husker Du songs.

This song for me goes hand in hand with I'll Never Forget You... and it goes to the same person for me. Man why have I never listened to these guys before, their songs are pretty much exactly what I'd been looking for, they are like exactly what I was thinking and trying to um.. let out? ... yeah.. something like that
i dont know what bobs beliefs are, but for some reason i always used to think he was talking about God in this song. like, he is tired of praying and nothing happening,i guess its because i always thought he was saying "pray some way" in that one line, but now that i came here and read the lyrics,i see the word is actually "phrase" and my thoughts on this song dont seem as valid anymore
One great thing about this song is that the target of it can be anyone. That makes it univeral yet personal.

Through various stages of my life, I have felt this song was exactly what I wanted to say to people I'm in a club with, ex-friends I knew and deities. For other people, it can be ex-lovers, parents, failed authority figures.

@blankets_stare Grant wrote this, not Bob, dude!

I always heard "pray" too, but it makes more sense as "phrase". It wouldn't make much sense for him to say, "I'd put you down where you belong". This is a perfect song for when you've been fucked over by someone you trusted and you need a little catharsis. Actually, the emotion is less angsty but more mellow, kind of passive aggressive, hollow acceptance of the person's betrayal.
A living proof that even back in the eighties ghosting was already a thing.
Zen Arcade is conceptual album telling a life story of a man, and this song is actually about his dead friend!
This is incorrect. 1) It's a conceptual album of a boy who runs away from a broken home, finds he is more dissatisfied and disturbed by the great big world and returns home. 2) "Pink Turns to Blue" is the song about discovered a friend has died.
