Something I Learned Today Lyrics
Black and white is always grey
Looking thru the window pane
I'm not inside your brain
Yield to the right-of-way
Stopping at the 4-way sign
Someone else's rules, not mine
Never look straight in the sun's rays
Letting all the sunshine in
Can't remember where I've been
Something I learned today
Something I learned today
Something I learned today
Something I learned today
Something I learned today
Something I learned today
Something I learned today

such a great band, so few comments. zen arcade is a concept album about a kid running away from home and finding an identity.
i think this song is either about the main character witnessing a freind do drugs/self destruct, mainly because of the part; "something i learned today, never look straight in the sun's rays, letting all the sunshine in, can't remember where i've been."
Grant hart (the drummer) was a total heroin addict too, and i think bob mould wrote this song, so maybe it's about grant.

genius.

i LOVE this song.... so much god damn energy in this era of punk rock

i think this song is semi-autobiographical about bob mould's life. he had some family issues, was homosexual and had drug problems. i think the character running away from home was supposed to be him.

anyone who remembers freshly what is said about 'zen arcade' in "our band could be your life" should elaborate...

a kid being oppressed by/phased into society and the human nature fixed into that. good setup for the album.
