Stop Lyrics

Yes, it's true that I believe
I'm weaker than I used to be
I wear my heart out on my sleeve
Oh, and I forget the rest of me

Yes, there's times I've been afraid
And there's no harm in that, I pray
'Cause I'm more frightened everyday
Someone will take the hope I have away

But you gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes, I know

But you gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes, I know

All the times I've given in
You fit me like a second skin
And one by one, I will begin
To wear you on the days I'm feeling thin

But you gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes, I know

But you gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes
You gotta give it up to get off sometimes, I know

You'd better stop
Stop
Stop
Using me up
You'd better stop
'Cause I've had enough
And I'm ready to forget the reasons
That keep me here

Walk in the rain
You will even if you're never gonna change
Good God, need a little love while
You'll find what you think you're gonna be child

You'd better stop
Stop
Stop
Using me up
You'd better stop
'Cause I've had enough
And I'm ready to forget the reasons
That keep me here

You find what you think you're gonna be, child

I'm sorry shark =/ That's not cool. I just got out of a situation like this. Stupid jerk only used me. Then said he was 'figuring himself out' and wasn't being his true self. All lies. I hate that. But hey sometimes you have to harden your heart, swallow your tears, and just walk away.

Yeah it's great and all... But what exactly does it mean? I haven't given it a whole lot of thought, I only truly listened to it for the first time this morning, and I don't know what to think...

I think this song is about the perils of being yourself, when you admit you're down but you want more in life. Sometimes you have to become this boring bland person in order to fit in. It's about becoming more acceptable as a person. You gotta give it up to get off sometimes means you gotta stop being you to "get off". This song also is about the frustrations of not being yourself because people start using you and you realise why you were yourself in the first place. That's just what I get from this song but I'm sure there are plenty of interpretations!

I feel like this relates to my current situation:

You're trapped in a relationship with a girl who uses you, and ignores you when she doesn't need you. She says she's just trying to figure herself out, but, "Good God, you need a little love." and it's to the point where you're just gonna start using her to feel better like she does to you. Sooner or later though, enough will be enough and you'll be able to forget the reasons that kept you there.
