Uptight (Everything's Alright) Lyrics
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, out of sight
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, out of sight
I'm a poor man's son from across the railroad tracks
The only shirt I own is hanging on my back
But I'm the envy of every single guy
Since I'm the apple of my girl's eye
When we go out stepping on the town
For a while my money's low and my suit's out of style
But it`s all right if my clothes aren't new
Out of sight because my heart is true
She says baby everything is all right
Uptight, out of sight
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, clean out of sight
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, out of sight
I'm a pearl of a girl
I guess that's what you might say
I guess her folks brought her up that way
The right side of the tracks
She was born and raised
In a great big old house full of butlers and maids
She says give her the things
That money can buy but I'll never
Never never make my baby cry
And it's all right
What if I can't do
Out of sight because my heart is true
She says baby everything is all right
Uptight, clean out of sight
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, clean out of sight
No one is better than I
I know I'm just an average guy
No footfall hero or smooth Don Juan
Got empty pockets
You see I'm a poor man's son
Uptight, out of sight
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, out of sight
The only shirt I own is hanging on my back
But I'm the envy of every single guy
Since I'm the apple of my girl's eye
For a while my money's low and my suit's out of style
But it`s all right if my clothes aren't new
Out of sight because my heart is true
She says baby everything is all right
Uptight, out of sight
Baby, everything is all right
Uptight, clean out of sight
Uptight, out of sight

This actually saved him from being dropped by Motown.
first off... whoever wrote down these lyrics was high. they are out of order and littered with typos.
Secondly... Best_Song_Ever. I've changed my mind... Superstition is only second best.
I love the lyrics... And I'm rich. It's American- the fact that being born poor isn't a life scentence. And obviously, like much of Stevie's music, it's a love song. It shows that love can conquer all (and leave you in an incredible enough mood to sing a song as uplifting as this one), and for his girlfriend, it has.
This song is one of the cheeriest songs I know. the musical accompaniment is uplifting, and the lyrics are just so happy!
only one comment!?!? cmon, this song is the best, it grabs your feet and makes you dance.
Stevie Wonder's greatest song by far.
Alright... I was a bit excited when I wrote that. Superstition is still the best song ever... But this song has the best lyrics ever.
"I'm a poor man's son from across the railroad tracks The only shirt I own is hanging on my back But I'm the envy of every single guy Since I'm the apple of my girl's eye"
The "narrator" of the song is the son of a poor man and all of the other guys are jealous because a girl is still attracted to him, even though he is so poor.
"When we go out stepping on the town For a while my money's low and my suit's out of style But it`s all right if my clothes aren't new Out of sight because my heart is true She says baby everything is all right Uptight, out of sight Baby, everything is all right Uptight, clean out of sight"
Even though his money is low and his clothes are out of style, his girl says "everything's alright" because his heart is true, and nothing else matters to her.
"Baby, everything is all right Uptight, out of sight I'm a pearl of a girl I guess that's what you might say I guess her folks brought her up that way The right side of the tracks She was born and raised In a great big old house full of butlers and maids She says give her the things That money can buy but I'll never Never never make my baby cry And it's all right What if I can't do Out of sight because my heart is true She says baby everything is all right Uptight, clean out of sight Baby, everything is all right Uptight, clean out of sight"
His girl grew up rich, in a big house with butler and maids. She says that he gives her things that money can't buy, such as love, so it doesn't matter.
Great song by Stevie. Always puts me in a good mood. :)
