The Eldar Lyrics

I've seen the moon
And the first sunrise
I'll leave it to the memories
And kiss the wind goodbye

For the Eldar
I'm trapped inside this dream
Of the Eldar's
Song of doom

I've tasted poison
When I drank the wine of fate
But fear was in my heart
I realized too late
The house of spirits' call

For the Eldar
I'm trapped inside this dream
Of the Eldar's
Song of the doom

High's the fee
Soon my spirit will return
Welcome dawn
Your light will take me home

I say farewell

To the Eldar
I'm trapped inside this dream
Of the Eldar's
Song of doom

This song is surely about Finrod. He's seen the moon and the first sunrise, whereas Beren did not. It wouldn't make sense for this to be about a man, though it does seem like it's coming from the perspective of someone not of the Eldar. Everything about it makes me think of Finrod, and the next track, which this song leads right into, IS Nom the Wise.

And the obvious narrator of the "Nom the Wise" would be Beren.....

@Mormegil I will add another thing that makes it clear to think about Finrod: "I've tasted poison, when I drank the wine of fate". For me the poison is the werewolf bite and the the wine of fate that he drank is a metaphor about the promise that he made about helping Beren.

I think that this song is about Lúthien's love for Beren. She was an Elf, immortal, but he was a mortal Man. Her love unbreakble for him meant that she had to give up the eternal life of the Eldar, "High's the fee" and spend her remaining years living with Beren, "Soon my spirit will return" (as a mortal).

From Beren and Lúthien the kings of Númenor and of Arnor and Gondor of the Third Age were descended.

And I thought is was about Beren and how he's trapped by the Eldar by falling for Lúthien. Only goes to show just how cryptic Blind Guardian can be sometimes.

Also, "the house of spirits call" sounds like the Hall of Mandos, where the spirit of Men continue past. And "soon my spirit will return" refers to the spirit of the Eldar being bound to the world, unlike mens spirit which move on.
