Boatless Booze Cruise (Part 1) Lyrics
jackknifed, my strife
take it easy, sit outside
i just died a thousand times yesterday
lay down, drown out
drowning in these cries and shouts
changing so fast that it stays the same
encryption ensconces this cryptic cliche
if it's not stupid, it's more of the same
i'm too tired to care, we're too busy to think
let's sit back and laugh and watch the ship sink
the hull and the bow and the smokestacks
disappeared and we watched it go down
with a streaming bronx cheer
thank you dear
i will sleep and get up and eat unaware
but don't forget to forget you forgot me
when i show up at your door
i'm gonna remember that you are my friend
and fall asleep on your floor
winter is coming
can you find your coat
let's go watch the water
while the bodies still float
slit my throat
it's more than a tad overdue
slit my throat
i can't die in here 'til next june
i breathed, it was smokey
i cried, it steamed
i dreamed that i slept
and i actually dreamed
what it is is a sickness
what it is is regret
and i might be tired
but i'm not dead yet
so don't forget to forget you forgot me
cuz when i show up at your door
i'm gonna remember that you are my friend
and fall asleep on your floor
take it easy, sit outside
i just died a thousand times yesterday
lay down, drown out
drowning in these cries and shouts
changing so fast that it stays the same

hmm okay... To me it always seemed like some ended relationship song. How it hurt and all the pain, and about staying friends...
"don't forget to forget you forgot me"; she "forgot" him, when she left him... but when he says he'll remember that she's his friend and he'll fall asleep on her floor (sign of trust), he signalizes that he has forgiven her for all the suffering she caused to him...
may not be what bren intended to say but it was always my interpretation...
there is a part missing, it's something like: what it is is a sickness, what it is is regret, and i'm not tired but i'm (nothing yet?)
but anyway, i love this song, does anyone know what it's about?
It's about feeling useless and feeling like your life is deadending and knowing that as your life changes and spirals out of your control that your friendships are the last things that you have left to remind you about why you started doing all this in the first place.
That's what the bands says about it, must be right......
the lyric that's missing is "what it is is a sickness what it is is regret and i might be dying but i'm not dead yet..." it's right before the last stanza
What this seems to me is that after the hurt of a failed relationship, he still likes the girl and wants to respect her, thus when he shows up at her door he'll sleep on her floor instead of trying to get into bed?
wait this is for "bling" i believe the missing part is "i might be tired, but i'm not dead yet"
AND it is in there!
the first verse I think its about being down in life, it could be after a relationship, or after losing someone close very recent (relative, friend, lover) the narrator is on a booze soaked night reminiscing on how life is now changed but it has not yet sunk in since the even just happened (changing so fast that it stays the same) life is starting to spin out of control (sit back and watch the ship sink) the narrator keeps trying to drink away the feeling (the hull and the bow and the smokestacks disappear as we watch it go down) he's comparing his life the sinking of a boat.
the second verse is when he's at his worse, he's almost at the point where he no longer wants to go on with life he's a {tad overdue) to be put out of his misery, his only wish is to see the light at the end of the tunnel (dreamed that I slept and actually dreamed)
the narrator realizes that he has people who he counts on, friends that will be his rock. he shows up looking for help hoping that this person/people have not forgot or given up on him and he passes out on their floor to sleep off the drunken night and realize that life will go on.
the main theme of this song, to me, is about the power of close friendship and the bonds that exist with you best friends will help you through anything
