Chicago Is Burning ... Lyrics
we throw out our bodies on the fire and we die
settle into ashes as the flames keep piling high
we tossed and spread the kerosene and alcohol
the ethylene ignited cardboard homes
the second in a hundred and again as many years
street signs, skyscrapers and names
state street, what a great street
when the places and the people stayed the same
winter beats the summer on the worst ones
i fall in love again on the first ones
carbon vapor lines burn as a grid
like the burning summer evenings
like my fingertips did
like the burning summer evenings
like my fingertips did
this town is choking on our filth
obstinate displays of wealth
clog our lincoln, wicker, rogers parks
here's to your health chicago
fiddle as we burn
nevermore, nevertheless
build it up and tear it down and never learn
settle into ashes as the flames keep piling high
we tossed and spread the kerosene and alcohol
the ethylene ignited cardboard homes
street signs, skyscrapers and names
state street, what a great street
when the places and the people stayed the same
i fall in love again on the first ones
carbon vapor lines burn as a grid
like the burning summer evenings
like my fingertips did
like the burning summer evenings
like my fingertips did
this town is choking on our filth
obstinate displays of wealth
clog our lincoln, wicker, rogers parks
here's to your health chicago
fiddle as we burn
nevermore, nevertheless
build it up and tear it down and never learn

Best Lawrence Arms song right here. The last verse pretty much explains what it's all about. This was also the first song i ever saw the lawrence arms play live. At the Fireside in March a few years ago, Badass
i heard this is being re-recorded for the b-sides...which would be KILLER. the guitar riffs in this song are sweet
Okay, I know the last post here was literally two years ago, but I gotta put this out there. The beginning of this song sounds ridiculously like 106 South. I mean the bass is different, but only slightly. I feel like I'm missing something, since the Lawrence Arms are fucking great, and I can't believe the similarities in the songs didn't occur to them. It's just confusing.
i think they did it on purpose ghost stories is an extremely well-thought-out album 106 South begins with the same two chords but contrasts sharply with the mood and subject matter of Chicago is Burning
