Sounds like suicide via a running car in the garage. He was in love with someone, he followed their vision of what they wanted (I dreamed your dream). But then they dumped him in the end, saying lets just be friends. So he breaths in the fumes of carbon monoxide with glory and pride, confesses himself about to die.
