Road Man Lyrics

Road man
Driving in the road van
He's got to beat the clock to the next town
Road man
Driving in the road van
I set up a sound system for the band

Road man slow it down
And you will get there safe and sound
He says no, no, no
The show must go on

Road man
Driving like a mad man
Breaking land speed records in the van
Road man
He don't mind police man
Leaving a trail of ripped up citations

Road man slow it down
And you will get there safe and sound
He says no, no, no
The show must go on

Road man
Heavy load
He's got to stop and smell the rose
Road man
He says no go
I've got to be the king of the road

Road man
Didn't see the train man
Until it was too late to slow the van
Meanwhile the band
Is waiting for the road man
Crushed by his beloved sound system

Road man slow it down
And you will get there safe and sound
He says no, no, no
No, no, no
No, no
The show must go on
The show must go on

The show must go on
The show must go on
The show must go on

Reggaelicious. Makes me think of Radio Free Steve for some irrational reason. That is to say - the short film about the guy who cruises around in the van dodging dystopians in an apocalyptic world broadcasting electronic music...

has anyone heard of it?

At a recent concert the lead singer announced that this song is a true story. He didn't say if the crash happened to their band roadie or another band.

Song Fact

@DebM The song was inspired by a real person who was part of Smash Mouth's stage crew before they were signed. Smash Mouth performed this song on 9/15/2024 at the Lodi Grape Festival, and the man who inspired the song joined them on stage, so he is very much alive and well and not killed in a train collision. I captured that song and others in this video. You can see him close up at the start and finish of the song. I met him backstage and he is very nice and maintains a close connection to the band to...
