Trenchtown Rock Lyrics
One good thing about music, when it hits you (you feel no pain)
Oh, oh, I say, one good thing about music, when it hits you (you feel no pain)
Hit me with music, hit me with music now
This is (Trenchtown rock), don't watch that
(Trenchtown rock), big fish or sprat now
(Trenchtown rock) You reap what you sow
(Trenchtown rock), and only Jah, Jah know
(Trenchtown rock) I'd never turn my back
(Trenchtown rock), I'd give the slum a try
(Trenchtown rock) I'd never let the children cry
(Trenchtown rock), 'cause you got to tell Jah, Jah why
(Groovin') It's Kingston 12
(groovin'), it's Kingston 12
(Groovin') It's Kingston 12 now
(groovin'), it's Kingston 12
No want you come galang so, oh no
(... no want you fe galang so), ska-ba-dip-ska-ba
(You want come cold I up ...) Ska-ba-dibby-dip,
ska-ba-doop, ska-ba-doop (... cold I up)
Oh, oh, I'm groovin', and the world knows by now,
now, now, now, now, now, now, now, y'all
Oh now, I said, you feel no pain now

I think it's about the power of music. When you love music so much, nothing else matters and nothing affects you.
I agree with you all, but I belive there is more to the song that makes you have a better appriciation for it. I think its about Marley reflecting on his time when his mother moved him and his family to Kingston in trench town after his dad died when he was 10. This is when and where he met and started playing music with Neville "Bunny" Livingston (aka Bunny Wailer) and later with Joe Higgs, a very ifluetial Rastafarian mentor and singer to Marley, and Peter McIntosh (Tosh). He is just singing about how when you are passionate about music nothing els matters, and how that was true in his life. Anyways, I wrote too much, but I thought it might be interesting to people who don't know a lot about Robert Nesta Marley's life.
Marley will never die, peace out.
I agree, "Trenchtown Rock" is about the empowering feeling you get when listening to good music, namely this song.
AWESOME SONG! so many people re-did this, and thats becuase its so great and true.
so true, that's it, damn, just chills....
"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. So hit me with music, brutalize me with music" Anyone who truly appreciates and identifies with ANY form of music no matter what the genre can understand what this statement ultimately means. That statement gives me chills.
I have "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain..." tattooed on my left forearm. It is my mantra.
acyeahman and wheels the line "burtalize me with music" is only in the sublime version so maybe you should listen to a song before you comment on it or at least read the lyrics.
"Hit me with music now, Hit me with music, harder, brutalize me with music."
does that NOT say it all?
Wow I must be crazy... but I honestly thought there were two meaning to the entire song! The obvious one was exactly what he said... about MUSIC....
the 2nd underlying meaning ... was about WEED!
Hit me with music?
He's also saying Give me a hit of that weed, then I'll feel no pain
Am I losing it ? Please someone agree with me LOL
I really do hate how people act like anything to do with Marley is somehow related to weed.
