It's Only Love Lyrics
I get high when I see you go by
My oh my
When you sigh, my, my inside just dries
Butterflies
Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?
It's only love and that is all
But it's so hard loving you
Is it right that you and I should fight
Every night?
Just the sight of you makes night time bright
Very bright
Haven't I the right to make it up, girl?
It's only love and that is all
Why should I feel the way I do?
It's only love and that is all
But it's so hard loving you
Yes, it's so hard loving you, oh
My oh my
When you sigh, my, my inside just dries
Butterflies
Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?
It's only love and that is all
But it's so hard loving you
Is it right that you and I should fight
Every night?
Just the sight of you makes night time bright
Very bright
Haven't I the right to make it up, girl?
It's only love and that is all
Why should I feel the way I do?
It's only love and that is all
But it's so hard loving you
Yes, it's so hard loving you, oh

Listen to the Antology version, it is MUCH better than the album version. Like 20 times better. Well, that's just my opinion, what do you think?
I think this is a beautiful song. I don't know why John didn't like it.
This sounds more like Paul romanticism than John's cynicism. Thats why they make such great partners. I like this one too.
John was "ashamed of" this because if its "abominable lyric content". It was, to him, all so cliché and un-Beatles like.
Yeha, John didn't l;ike the lyrics, but he supposedly still liked the tune. Nice song... this is my friend's favorite Beatles song.
I love this song! It hurts me to know that my favorite person in music didn't like it. This is my song whenever I can see my crush. Who is out-of-bounds for me. Hehehe...
The music is good. But like John said, it's such a cliche. Oh well, it's still the nsong of The Beatles and I like like like it! The meaning is quite literal, don't you think? So I think you don't need anymore explanation.
*John Lennon is my favorite Beatle. Paul's songs are so literal wherein John's are very heartfelt and deeper. JOHN LENNON STILL LIVES OUR HEARTS!!!
This song sounds like "Being For The Benefit Of MR. KIte" off of Sgt. peppers. good song
I like this song, but I can see why John didn't. His songs weren't so cliched and this is more typical of Paul's style. We Can Work It Out is such a good example of how John and Paul are foils... Paul's part being optimistic and John's being more dark and depressing.
I don't think the lyrics are all horrible. I mean, getting butterflies is kind of silly and all that, but once it gets past that the lyrics aren't too bad compared with a lot of other pop at the time.
Agree the lyrics aren't bad-- they create a tension that makes the song listenable. Also, you wouldn't hear many other bands in 1965 singing "I get high". I think it sounds right in place on the American Rubber Soul. In particular, it has a similar vibe to "Michelle" and "In My Life", and fits well with the sexual frustration theme of several other Rubber Soul songs from "You Won't See Me" to "Girl".
