At The Movies Lyrics

here's to the maker
the film double taker
illusion type faker
guaranteed shaker
paravision viewer

or it just may seem
lost the real scope of life
the hope of life
to cope with life
and found it on the screen

and how many times have we heard that line
do you think I'm blind
to trade my mind
for what you call fine
never in my time
I'm not in your movie

hey, what can it be
on the big white screen
hey, how can you see
you're livin' in 3D

I guess you think your at the movies somewhere
stale popcorn
don't stand in your chair
stale popcorn
don't stand in your chair

a child is influenced, by the make believe
to take advantage of the truth is cold hearted sin
so I say to the youth right now
don't sway to the unjust
no matter what they say
never give in, never give in.

This line...From the 1979 live version floating around youtube...HR sings with a fucking intense passion.

This song gets at some principles of rastafarianism and ironically reminds me of The Matrix movie, which echoes the sentiment of these lyrics. My take: media companies are busy repackaging the same trashy Fast and Furious movies and “reality TV” and the impact of it on our society is mind numbing...much like how the Matrix hypnotized people and allowed them to “live” in an illusion of a comfortable reality. If our Babylonian society can hook children on this diet of junk entertainment (stale popcorn) it can train them to buy the culture, aspire toward wealth and consumption, and care more about the projected “successful” capitalist lifestyle where you spend all your time working for some idea of “the good life” meanwhile sacrificing life and health to corporations you work for. HR is saying he has refused to “trade his mind” and instead has freed his mind “I'm not in your movie”. And he is imploring the kids to make that choice...to choose real life (take the blue pill).
