Tears Of The Dragon Lyrics

For too long now
There were secrets in my mind
For too long now
There were things I should have said

In the darkness, I was stumbling for the door
To find a reason, to find the time, the place, the hour

Waiting for the winter sun, and the cold light of day
The misty ghosts of childhood fears
The pressure is building and I can't stay away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear, I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

Where I was
I had wings that couldn't fly
Where I was
I had tears I couldn't cry

My emotions, frozen in an iced lake
I couldn't feel them, until the ice began to break

I have no prayer over this, you know I'm afraid
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I'm slipping away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear, I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

Slowly I awake
Slowly I rise
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I'm slipping away

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear, I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me

I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear, I once believed
The tears of the dragon, for you and for me...

I've always felt that this song was about a man who had let something build up for so long that he can't take it anymore, and just let's his emotions loose. And that the "tears of the dragon" are the tears of the man.

A very well written song, absolutely beautiful. Oh, and it is most certainly "I have no POWER over this"

Otm is right - during the Wacken 2002 gig (which is preserved in the form of the worst bootleg ever recorded!), Bruce says this before the song:

"This is a song that I wrote when I left Iron Maiden, and it's about fear, it's about doubt, and it's about trying to conquer the bullshit that's in your life."

TEARS OF THE DRAGON I'll write about it as I reflexion of an Intense song on me.

It reminds me of the times when life is stuck. .."Where I was / I had wings that couldn't fly / Where I was /I had tears I couldn't cry". (like in denial)

"My emotions, frozen in an iced lake/ I couldn't feel them, until the ice began to Break" (aww, this song breaks me)

and then, the inner strenght to let things go somehow one day... ..."I throw myself into the sea /release the wave, let it wash over me, .....". (to bet on something, fear of uncertainty maybe, tears of release)

"I have no power over this, you know I'm afraid, the walls I built are crumbling, the water is moving...." (already on the way, like a drift). so there you Go ! / whatever be it.

I guess it's a very personal point of view, I love this song, and my fav version is the original one, in Balls to Picasso '94, right after the 2 cd release in which it was with the breeding house and no way out to be continued.

Actually...i remember when this album came out in 1994 and reading an interview with Bruce (I was 14 years old...) that hinted at the song talking about his battle with the decision to leave Iron Maiden for his solo career.

The certainty and solidity of an established huge star band with the uncertainty and unknown of him being by himself...the emotions involved, the limitations he felt with Iron Maiden and his need for artistic freedom...

Great song by the one and only true singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson. I love the vocals, the lyrics, and the guitar. It's all great.

I seem to recall that this is about a guy who's trying to get over the past so he can go on with the future. I get butterflies in my stomach whenever I listen to this song, it was my first Dickinson song. If you guys are into this, you should hear the orchestral version, it's 8:18 long and it's beautiful.

It's not: 'I have no PRAYER over this', it's: 'I have no POWER over this'. Get it right you moron

Bruce definetly has to be one of the greatest song writers ever. Every song he writes has such intelligence and art work and beauty behind it. Except for stuff like 22 Acacia Avenue and Charlotte the Harlot, but that stuff still is awesome, even if it's not genius like the rest of his work. But if you look into the meaning of his songs they have great meaning unlike most music today.

But this song is just amazing. The Acoustic Chill Out on this song is also an amazing one. Alive in Studio A, Alive at the Maruqee Club, and Scream for Me Brazil on this song are also amazing. The only version of this song I don't care for would be the original version, First Bit, Long Bit, Last Bit.

22 Acacia Avenue nor Charlotte the Harlot didn't wrote Bruce

@^exeF. Charlotte the Harlot is previous to Bruce joining Iron Maiden

Quote from when Bruce played this song live at "Alive at the Maruqee Club".

"This is a song about uh, about being shit scared of change, the unknown, all that stuff, this is called, Tears of the Dragon"
