We Love You Lyrics

We don't care if you only love "we"
We don't care if you only love "we"
We love you, we love you
And we hope that you will love "we", too
We love "they", we love "they"
And we want you to love "they", too, ah...

We don't care if you hound "we" and
Love is all around "we"
Love can't get our minds off
We love you, we love you

You will never win "we"
Your uniforms don't fit "we"
We forget the place we're in
'Cause we love you
We love you
Of course we do

I love you, I love you
And I hope that you won't prove wrong, too
We love you, we do
We love you, we do, ah...

Correct: Lennon and McCartney on backing vocals (Jagger and Richards had earlier sung on "All You Need Is Love" and Jones had played oboe on "Baby You're A Rich Man"). Jones played the mellotron (he did so on several Stones songs) and was praised for his ability to get the percussive effect on the instrument; in 1967 mellotrons were awkward Rube Goldberg-like contraptions that had a delay between hitting the keys and the sound actually coming out. The song is also notable for Nicky Hopkins's driving piano (copied almost note-for-note by Small Faces/Faces/Rod Steward keyboardist Ian McLagan in the coda of Stewart's cover of the Stones' "Street Fightin' Man" on Stewart's debut solo album, "An Old Raincoat Won't Let You Down" (1970, UK), also released as "The Rod Stewart Album" in the U.S. in 1969).

Brian Jones was extremely talented. It is such a shame that drugs got the best of him. I'll leave the interpretation of this song to others, but it is one hell of a great song largely due to Brian. It would have been a good fit for Their Satanic Magesty's Request.
