I'm sailing away
Set an open course for the virgin sea
'Cause I've got to be free
Free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board I'm the captain
So climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow
On every shore and I'll try
Oh Lord, I'll try
To carry on

I look to the sea
Reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever
So the story goes
But somehow we missed out
On that pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can
To carry on

A gathering of angels
Appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope
And this is what they said
They said, come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me (lads)
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me (baby)
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

I thought that they were angels
But to my surprise
We climbed aboard their starship
We headed for the skies

Singing, come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me (lads)
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

    Taken from songfacts.com:

"This contains an allusion to the Bible verse of Ezekiel chapter 1:1-28 where a large wheel/cloud (depending on text) appears to Ezekiel and gives him instructions from God: "A gathering of angels appeared above my head. They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said... (later in song)... I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise, they climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies." Some people believe the figure Ezekiel saw was not a messenger sent from God but an alien space craft or a time machine from the future."

Seems plausible. Sorry if I ruined the song for anyone :P

I think this song goes hand-in-hand with Boat On A River...it's just about finding peace. Going in search of "home."

To me, this song is about doing whatever it takes to achieve your dreams. The angels are the good, aliens the bad. But good or bad, you need to achieve your dreams by yourself, not with the assistance of fictional figures.

If the lyrics are overly cheesy it's because STYX is an overly cheesy band. They rock though, I'm a big STYX fan. America's gaudy answer to 70's/80's brit-pop.

Has anybody heard Cartman's version on South Park. Its pretty damn funny! They use Styx's original music, with Cartmans sweet voice, and chef jumps in towards the end. I posted the lyrics. Just waitin for em to get approved!

The Cartmen Version is great... no comparison to the styx version, but still great.

THIS SONG MAKES SWEET LOVE TO IT'S OWN EPIC GLORY. I like to sing this on the water or at school. Deep inside though, it's all about the freaks and geeks connection. Styx Stynx, I agree.

Two things: Although every band was probably on SOMETHING during the seventies and eighties, some talented songwriters/singers have the ability to let random thoughts write a song. And this song wold certainly appear to be written by someone who was high. I'm not saying DeYoung or whoever wrote it wasn't, but that's my point.

Secondly, I believe this song is not TOO cheesy, just enough, and that's it about adventure and dreams.

    Lyric Correction

    Key correction:

"They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies"

    should read

"WE climbed aboard their starship WE headed for the skies."

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
