I'm Down Lyrics
You tell lies thinking I can't see
You can't cry because you're laughing at me
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh
When you know I'm down?
(How can you laugh?)
Man buys ring, woman throws it away
Same old thing happens every day
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh
When you know I'm down?
(How can you laugh?)
We're all alone and there's nobody else
You still moan, "Keep your hands to yourself"
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh
When you know I'm down?
(How can you laugh?)
Oh yeah
You can't cry because you're laughing at me
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh
When you know I'm down?
(How can you laugh?)
Man buys ring, woman throws it away
Same old thing happens every day
I'm down (I'm really down)
I'm down (down on the ground)
I'm down (I'm really down)
How can you laugh
When you know I'm down?
(How can you laugh?)
We're all alone and there's nobody else
You still moan, "Keep your hands to yourself"
I'm down (I'm really down)

wow, i can't believe the lack of comments. This song is truly awesome! poor guy. It's basically about a man who's putting lots of effort into a relationship, and the woman could not care less!! simple
We’re all alone and there’s nobody else, You still moan ‘Keep your hands to yourself’,
heh...I'm surprised something this blatant got past the cenrors of that day...This is a really kickin' tune, I wish Paul got that raspy rocker voice more often.
Yeah, and what about:
Man buys ring woman throws it away, Same old thing happens ev'ry day.
Sounds like we're at the home of a demented couple. The great thing about this song however is that it combines the notion of being depressed (in the lyrics) with some absolutely great, uplifting music that's played with an unbelievable sense of joy. This is one of my favorite rock 'n roll tunes of all time (far better than most of the songs he covered on 'Choba P SSSR' (or so) and 'Run Devil Run'.
I've always thought that this song never got the attention (or airplay) it deserves. I mean, I know the song itself is very rough and not perfect by any means, but it's a real rocking number and it's too bad it's so often overlooked.
This is one of the few songs of Paul's I truly love. For some reason, I don't take to his sappier songs. I was never much of a fan for Elanor Rigby and Blackbirds, even Yesterday (although I think that is an absolutely great song... I just don't like to listen to it, not my kind of thing). But, when Paul rocks it out, he does so well! I love watching them play this at Shea Stadium (watch it on the anthology!) and it's great stuff... John gets all nervous because he has to play it on the keyboard and has no guitar to hide behind so he goes crazy and plays with his elbows and stuff, and you see Paul laugh at him and turn around in a circle, such fun!
I know I'm not supposed to think this, let alone say it but; why on earth would you tell paul to keep his hands to himself O_Ô :P basic message to me is "she's just not that in to you (anymore)"
"I know I'm not supposed to think this, let alone say it but; why on earth would you tell paul to keep his hands to himself O_Ô"

Ha, I know right? xD

I love this song. And Sir Paul's still rocking it today.

Well done EyeMTheWalrus for mentioning Shea Stadium - that footage is priceless. it really shows how insecure Lennon was and how much he relied on the guitar while on stage to divert attention away from himself.
On the subject of this song, it's fantastic. Quite possibly the best thing Macca ever wrote. He has that gravel in his voice that you can hear on 'Oh Darling' in the lines "When you told me, you didn't need me anymore" etc, the big difference being that this is a good ole rock n roller as opposed to a piano ballad.
Think about the fact that this song and 'Rain' were both used as Beatles' b-sides! It's absurd. This song is the one that Little Richard tried to write for about 15 years but couldn't quite do it. Macca did it in 5 minutes!
This song is really good. The beatles are legends but what does We're all alone and there's nobody else You still moan, "Keep your hands to yourself!" mean.
