Strip It Down Lyrics

Ain't no fun at the government hall
Slicked back injustice sits nicely next to smiles
Paranoia at the heels of too much greed
Obedience an art form while the sad bleed

Success and love dictate while skin touches fashion
Consumerism beauty for cheap appeal
I don't wanna dance for people to watch
Smother my life in interest accounts

Outside life brings down genocide
And consumer self-hate leads to designer bullshit
Hate is are and we steal cars
Decaying flowers in the playground of the rich

You can launch sweetly and say nice things
But I ain't ever on the way up
My only way is down on disease that tries to suffocate
The pure ideals that turn to hate

Cover art for Strip It Down lyrics by Manic Street Preachers

In my opinion this song is about their hate of consumerism replacing our culture and ultimately becoming it. "Strip it down" is saying they want to destroy the culture and system. "injustice sits nicely next to smiles" is saying that on tv and in newspapers you see politicians smile and say everything's going well, but they spend all day increasing the amount of injustice in the country. "Success and love dictate" is saying we are obsessed with celebrity culture so what they do dictates how we live our lives. "Consumerism beauty for cheap appeal" is saying that we see all these products on view, we buy them an they give us a cheap thrill, but it's not relly worth anything. "Decaying flowers in the playground of the rich" is saying the time is up for the rich, and their ideal is "Decaying". "And consumer self-hate leads to designer bullshit" is saying that ohers make you feel worthless and hate yourself if you don't wear all the designer labels.

My opinion anyway :)
