Hush Lyrics

I got a certan little girl she's on my mind
No doubt about it she looks so fine
She's the best girl that I ever had
Sometimes she's gonna make me feel so bad

Hush, hush
I thought I heard her calling my name now
Hush, hush
She broke my heart but I love her just the same now
Hush, hush
Thought I heard her calling my name now
Hush, hush
I need her loving and I'm not to blame now

(Love, love)
They got it early in the morning
(Love, love)
They got it late in the evening
(Love, love)
Well, I want that, need it
(Love, love)
Oh, I gotta gotta have it

She's got loving like quicksand
Only took one touch of her hand
To blow my mind and I'm in so deep
That I can't eat and I can't sleep

Listen
Hush, hush
Thought I heard her calling my name now
Hush, hush
She broke my heart but I love her just the same now
Hush, hush
Thought I heard her calling my name now
Hush, hush
I need her loving and I'm not to blame now

(Love, love)
They got it early in the morning
(Love, love)
They got it late in the evening
(Love, love)
Well, I want that, need it
(Love, love)
Oh, I gotta gotta have it

It's rather creepy, actually. I feel that it's about a guy who is obsessed with the girl that broke up with him. She has moved on, and he hasn't.

"She broke my heart but I love her just the same now"

He's completely obsessed with her.

"...I'm in so deep That I can't eat and I can't sleep"

And he's haunted by thoughts of her, even though she's not around.

"Thought I heard her calling my name now"

He has been nearly driven mad by this obsession, perhaps even to the extent that he will "get her back", whether she's a willing participant or not.

"I need her loving and I'm not to blame now."

I wouldn't be too surprised if this song inspired "Tyler" by the Toadies -- another great, but creepy, obsession song.

I agree with machinenvy, you people are pretty thick if you can't see that's what it's about. And even if I'm wrong, I still think it's a great song....

Maybe the greatest love song ever. The meaning is obvious.

wow thats a weird interpretation, but thats what music is about, i think its more in the lines of Offsprings "self esteem" i see it as a man that may not be in love wit the girl but they keep hooking up for good ol booty calls:

Only took one touch of her hand To blow my mind and I'm in so deep

thats just how i read into it...

Great pumped up rendition of Joe South's original!! If you love this version, check out the original, because although I heard Deep Purple's version first, South's version clearly blew me away. The rawness was so awesome. Great song, and I also love the tie in with the Beatles (nanana's are from "A Day in the Life"). Good song.

Australian singer Russell Morris (of "The Real Thing" fame) did a good version of this song with his band called Somebody's Image before Deep Purple did theirs.

Give me a break, this song is a fairly obvious allegory (metaphor). It is not about a girl, it is about a drug.

"They got it early in the morning They got it late in the evening Well, I want that, need it Oh, I gotta gotta have it"

Who's "they"? The dealers.
