I think the background lyric is "please my feline". The song is all about being hunted, running away, not daring to look forward, getting scared of a look, another connection that could lead to being drawn back. I think its someone Gary hooked up with once, developed deep feelings for, but found out she only wanted him for the fun stuff and nothing serious, which hurt him, but he keeps getting pulled back so he's trying to escape. The words he can hear reverberate is he was just an "easy ride" which, if you deeply fall for someone, can be the most painful thing to hear, so he's running for his life. Later in "Reading Heaney to me" He references a cat twice: "The night tumbles on us, with gentle paws. The cars and the chaos, a muted purr" (Gary explained that he tried to find the lyrics online cos he didn't write his down, and all lyrics stated "pause" instead of "paws" which is wrong - he sings "paws") So I think this is another reference to a cat. A pretty good hunter, and him and his heart are the prey in this song. There are a good number of songs where Gary is heartbroken. He's one of those guys that wears his heart on his sleeve and it gets trampled over easily, or he goes and does something he knows he shouldn't while in a relationship and that causes another heartache. He just aches for love and connection. Now he's build a fortress around his heart and hasn't been with anyone in a damn long time. I hope he faces his fears and finds true love.

i always thought he said 'an easy life is all you said i was'. but now it's not. ride is better actually. 'please try to control your feelings, it doesn't make you want me now' is good. i know someone who has told me all his feelings for me over and over and over again and i can't think of anyone i'd like less for anything to happen. he doesn't seem to grasp that the more feelings he can't control the less i like him. it's funny. perfect line. and then also the bit after that applies to the situation, it's like pervy people and you don't know what they're thinking. oh and the songs pretty good too.

The words she said to him are reverberating round his head, he cant get away from them or forget them. after he was tru about how he felt she told him he didnt actually mean much to her (he was just an easy ride) and that she is telling him to control his feelings cos however much you want me, she doesnt want to know.

I've always wondered that, Greenmuffins. It sounds like he's saying "Please purr, feline," or something. I have no idea.

I think it is 'Please beg, feline' or 'Please me, feline' This is a very long shot, but the line 'It doesnt make me want you more' makes me think that the woman is trying to make him want her... and the voices in the background might be his will, saying 'Please me, feline'
