This is not likely what the band was writing about but here it goes. I think this song is about a guy whos girl friend is mad at him once again. He has not told her something important and it all ends up blowing up in his face. This may happen more often than he thinks it should. But with this being darkest hour known for their political views (at least up till "undoing ruin"-which is amazing) so this most likely has something to do with a government cover up and the press exposing it. In this song the government is portrayed by this man and the press by the woman

you are sort of on the rigght track I think its about governments put everythong they have into war and fighting for a cause only to realise that the cause is nothing and that they really have been killing pintlessly and they are wrong then the feeling you get for realising what horrible things you have done I could be way off though
