The song is about a one sided relationship. One partner was totally committed, e.g. "I gave you all I had"... the other wasn't. So the uncommitted partner went his separate way... & realized that he gave up something special. And now he's coming crawling/begging back. And just like in true life, the dumb-ass girl takes him back.
This song is the perfect, gorgeous, (semi)positive flip-side to The Postal Service's "Nothing Better." Love it.
I must confess thatalthough I am a non-sentimental guy who hates sloshie songs this one really gets me. I think it's a very modern love song, i.e. flawed and imperfect relationship ends well. Hope Sandoval's voice is really sexy as well.
Its not about a one sided relationship, but one where he leaves to find something better, realizes that he had something better and comes back for forgiveness.
