Karl Hyde is dogman (not the only time he's called himself this) and the king of snake was the garment manufactoring king of osaka - who took Karl out to watch the snake fights - which the king describes at the end of the song. probably the most lyrical literal song Underworld have recorded...
...OK - I take that last bit back... Ring road is pretty damn literal too...
