Heather's Wall Lyrics

Well it feels like slow motion…
I hear the gun exploding,
I see the flash that brings me to my knees,
and I feel the warmth flowing out of me.

Chorus:

But in my mind I'm climbing up the stairs
and walking down the hall,
and Heather's standing there.
October ’99, I see us in New England in the fall.
Our love will last forever like that 8 x 10
hanging on Heather's wall, hanging on Heather's wall.

I see the money on the floor
and his gun there by the door.
He was trying to rob the bank when I walked in.
Oh, but this is not the way it's supposed to end.

Chorus

Oh, somewhere someone says we've lost him now.
But I look up and I see Heather's smile,
so how can I be dying
when I'm climbing up the stairs
and walking down the hall ?

And I see a bright light there.
October ninety-nine, that picture of New England in the fall.
Our love will last forever like that 8x10 hanging on Heather's wall.

Hanging on Heather's wall, hanging on Heather's wall…

I just heard someone discussing part of this song. They thought the bit about him seeing Heather when he died meant she was already dead...what do you think ?

I love this song.

"They thought the bit about him seeing Heather when he died meant she was already dead...what do you think ?"

Well you probably won't read this since you posted that 7 years ago, but I think it attempts to mirror the idea that your life flashes before your eyes when you die. Although this guy's happiest moments can be summed up with a picture of him and heather. Since he's so preoccupied with that one scene, it can be safe to say she's the love of his life. Whether she's dead or not isn't...
