I Just Wasn't Made For These Times Lyrics
I keep looking for a place to fit
Where I can speak my mind
I've been trying hard to find the people
That I won't leave behind
They say I got brains
But they ain't doing me no good
I wish they could
Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong
Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)
I guess I just wasn't made for these times
Every time I get the inspiration
To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found
Where can I turn when my fair weather friends cop out
What's it all about
Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong
Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)

actually the chorus has "four layers" which goes:
thank you for that. a lot.
thank you for that. a lot.
Okay, I was wondering what those layers were.

"It's about a guy who was crying out because he thought he was too advanced, and that he'd eventually have to leave people behind. All my friends thought I was crazy to do Pet Sounds." -Brian Wilson
hirezolution, in the part you are referring to he sings "People I know don't wanna be where I'm at"
Me and my girlfriend absloutely adore this song. We both feel as if we should have been living in the twenties, or the sixties.
And that all of our intrests, demeanor, ect..are completely relevant to that of those times.
Overall, It's about someone who feels that if they were born in another time, they would fit in, unlike they do now.
However, I make the absloute best of these times, my girlfriend does as well :]
I agree with wrong9933. It is not about living in another time,it's about not fitting in. He mentions leaving people behind and that is what happens with friends who don't understand you. How many of ur high school friends are still ur friends? When you feel like you have nobody to relate you feel sad and alone, you wish that you lived in another time where u can be accepted for who u are.
i can't believe no one has commented on this song, its a highlight of pet sounds and i identify with it a lot, im only 17 and i wish i'd been born for the 60's
TO ME THIS SONG IS ABOUT THE GREAT THINGS IN LIFE THAT WE ALL EXPERIENCE, BUT THE SADNESS WHICH SURROUNDS US ALL, DROWNDES OUT ALL THE BEAUTY.
Everybody has a time in their life when they don't fit in - no matter how hard they try! I remember those days when I was in my early teens in the early 70's. No matter what I did I didn't fit in. Luckly I made it through those days - unlike some of my friends!
I was born in the late 1970s, but man I can relate to this song. Even though I grew up on alternative, grunge, and alt-country/Americana, I think "Pet Sounds" was the best pop/rock CD ever recorded.

Anyway, I felt this way in my early twenties when I battled depression and my own demons.

Fucking amazing song, Pet Sounds' hidden gem.
Does anybody know what Brian is singing under the refrain "sometimes I feel very sad," in the higher harmony? It begins with "People I..."
A real horrow show song, brilliant
sometimes i feel out of place and just wrong with everything i do. i relate to this. but anyways what if the beach boys were made in these times?
