Jersey Girl Lyrics

I got no time for the corner boys
Down in the street making all that noise
Or the girls out on the avenue
`Cause tonight I wanna be with you
Tonight I'm gonna take that ride
Across the river to the Jersey side
Take my baby to the carnival
And I'll take her on all the rides

Cause down the shore everything's all right
You and your baby on a Saturday night
You know all my dreams come true
When I'm walking down the street with you

Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl

You know she thrills me with all her charms
When I'm wrapped up in my baby's arms
My little girl gives me everything
I know that some day she'll wear my ring
So don't bother me man I ain't got no time
I'm on my way to see that girl of mine
`Cause nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl

Sha la la la...

I see you on the street and you look so tired
I know that job you got leaves you so uninspired
When I come by to take you out to eat
You're lyin' all dressed up on the bed baby fast asleep
Go in the bathroom and put your makeup on
We're gonna take that little brat of yours and drop her off at your mom's
I know a place where the dancing's free
Now baby won't you come with me
`Cause down the shore everything's all right
You and your baby on a Saturday night
Nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl

We Jersey girls are great!

Don't wanna sound annoying, but everyone realizes this is a Tom Waits song originally, right? Check out Tom's version of his great HEARTATTACK & VINE album.

I'm surprised more people don't recognize the difference between this song and most Springsteen songs right off the bat. This song is highly romanticized, not Bruce's style at all. Yet I've heard people take this as a typical sample of his songwriting, which pains me inside because Bruce is about much more than "I Love New Jersey!"

Classic line: "We're gonna tkae that little brat of yours and drop her off at your mom's" Way to tell it like it is!

@suckmykiss yeah, exactly, he's always romanticizing the tough love of working class life and expressing some emotion through it...go in the bathroom and put your make up on...it's infusing femininity (in a very male, please me way) into her tiredness...we're going to go out dancing...I know a little place...I'm going to make life better for you, etc...

Tom Wait's is simply expressing how good it is to be with the girl he loves (and married). Bruce doesn't intend to romanticize but inevitably does...racing cars, family ties, run down towns, drowning in a river, crashing...

Bruce has never been one ot lie in his music..."you ain't a beauty but hey you're alright". I love this song tho...Jersey women are god's gift to humanity.

Poor Man, when does he ever say that in the song?

He says it in "Thunder Road". PoorMan was trying to illustrate how Bruce doesn't mince words.

Was the final verse added by Springsteen? Did not see it on Tom Waits' version

This is a classic song,As a Springsteen fan,I think his version is superb, but Tom Waits is awesome

Yes, it's a Tom Waits song, but it's one that Springsteen absolutely had to record at some point.

Glad he included it on the Live album, in front of a New Jersey audience of course.

Hearing this song made me want to drive across New Jersey and fall in love with a Jersey girl right then and there.
