At Dawn Lyrics
At dawn they ride again
They'll haul you out to the streets
They'll burn your papers in your empty trash cans
Beat this thought into your head
Singing over and over again:
"All your life is obscene!
Forget the papers, forget your musical dreams!"
But that's when my knife rises
Their life ends and my life starts again
They'll haul you out to the streets
They'll burn your papers in your empty trash cans
Beat this thought into your head
Singing over and over again:
Forget the papers, forget your musical dreams!"
Their life ends and my life starts again

this song starts off the album so well. its just an amazing way to start off an amazing cd, one of my favorites.
I think this one is easy. The world is telling him that his life as a musician is a dumb idea, that he'll never make it and he should forget about it. But that's what keeps him going. When they put him down and what not, that's when he goes and makes music.
What's interesting, though is he basically calls them hobos when he says they burn your trash cans. It's cool beacuse it's like they are the low-lifes who have to burn papers and empty trash cans to stay warm, but they're telling him that he'll never make it.
Cool idea with the hobos. SICK SONG
Cool idea with the hobos. SICK SONG
this song gives me chills and speaks to something much deeper. much deeper than can be explained. whatever was going on in Jim James head he expressed it so hauntingly sweet.
