Honestly, people? Being used isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just that being used by someone who doesn't love you certainly can be. If you're not into it, it's bad. If you're into it and it's properly done, it's amazing.
This song can be taken in one of two ways: The pessimistic, "bad used", or the fetishistic/kinky/BDSM "good used".
I'm really much more inclined to take it the second way. For anybody at all involved with D/S, this resonates rather strongly. For some people, all they really want is to be loved and needed; everything they need can be found in interactions with one person, fulfilling everything.

Wow, I'm surprised that no one has commented on this amazing song yet. I think this song is about ending a distructive relationship. Even though she asks to be used, you can tell she is sick of being walked all over by this mystery lover. This song, even though it is about having the courage to pick up and leave a bad relationship, even if it means loosing everything you have, is still really sad. The abuse in the relationship makes it so she doesn't trust anyone, and thinks that everyone will be the same as this guy. Poor poor girl (Or should I say Shirly?).
This song is without a doubt on the the best songs by Garbage. The song is self explanitory, however the views mentioned are unusual. What I mean to say is that most women today are caught up with materialistic things, but in this song, Shirley mentions that she doesn't need that. All she wants is someone strong, and someone to love. In addition, I think she is also talking about the previous mistakes of a past relationship.
