The Man with the Dogs Lyrics

I am no one
But I am well known
For I am the Man With the Dogs
I stare at you shopping
Watch while you're walking
Two dogs run around your toes
You turn around
Two eyes break you down
'Now who does that guy think he's starin' at?'
Stop in your tracks
You're being laughed at
Your armored ego is nude
And I do and I do
Crack up 'cos I'm getting to you
I see you I see you
And you're pretty self-conscious too

Down to you church I'm looking for victims
Spell of the Man With the Dogs
I'll haunt you
And follow you to work
That ghost is back again
Creep into you
I won't go away
You're taking yourself too seriously
I smile as you frown
And turn to walk away
Your habits for all to see

I see a shrew I see you
And the rodent things you do
You see you I see you
And you're pretty self-conscious too

And I'm gonna crack your mask
Yeah, and I'm gonna laugh Open wide...
Saw you again
You'll see me tomorrow
Curse of the Man With the Dogs
You may not like me
You won't forget me
Not safe even in Walgreen's
They've seen me
Ask your friends
'Oh I know him'
Seen but I'm never heard
By your lot A stare
Is worth a thousand biting phrases
See how stupid you are?
I dare you I dare you
To erase my laser tattoo
You see you you see you
And you're pretty self-conscious too
And I'm gonna crack your mask
Yeah, and I'm gonna laugh
What's inside?

Is it pubic hair
Is it cobweb air
I bet you just don't care...

I picture a guy who's percieved as a weirdo by these stuffy tightwads, and instead of being anti-social or lashing out at them for it, he decides to embrace it and goes around showing that off, just to make them squirm. "A smile is worth a thousand biting phrases, see how stupid you are."

The liner notes for Give Me Convenience have, next to the lyrics, the words, "PERFORMANCE ART AS A WAY OF LIFE." I see it as a guy who's given up everything to be the man with the dogs, following the wealthy elites around and laughing at them, making them wonder what he finds so funny...

You forgot this part. So did everyone, really. Played live it varies, but the studio version goes into some thing about the pursued going inside and seeing the man outside the window and "your wretched corporate li(v)es disintegrating into ashes... ashes... ashes... we all... fall... DOWN..." It always ends with some variation on the "ashes" part. Fun but disturbing.

I didn't get the idea behind this song when I was first listening to it, being about 15 then. The main reason why I stopped listening to DK back then was their all-around attack on human insecurities, like elsewhere in "your emotion" or "halloween". i never cared so much for the punk-scene-inner-conflict songs like "do the slag", their best work was done when Jello mercilessly described absurd aspects of everyday (Western) society. Like here. Insecure people, taught by their environment to wear a fake smile all the time, are not neccessarily bad people, they sometimes are just heavily misguided. I kinda felt personally attacked by this song, as i never felt comfortable around strangers. When people like my teenageself hear laughter, somewhere, they think it's directed at them and they get self-conscious. You can only pity people who stay in that stage of growth.

This song is the troll's anthem!

It's all about breaking into and exposing inflated egos, narcissism, and self delusions without asking permission.

ARRGH! I'm dying to know what this song is about, so if any knows, drop me a line. I assume it's about stalkers or the like, who judge people based on how they act and dress.

The Man With The Dogs is ATTACKING the girl. In an Antichrists mind - which is what Jello is assuming here - they can see, as noted by the phrase 'see all your habits' all the lower mundane usless base if not 'rodent' habituae of the Earth born human being; in this case a girl. Jello even mocks her mindless drivel at the end when he rants, not on the lyric sheet, about shopping and gossip - as in he knows (because he see's) she is nothing more than a bag of self importance asserting itself. This relationship is the...

Rocker of a number- Cracker of a joke - Jello is bloody sarcastic, I dont know wheter to dance or laugh! It's pretty obvious its about those weirdoes at parks and shopping malls - those freaks are freaky!

I always pictured a homeless guy laughing at the lives of uptight rich white folks, but I could be wrong.

As I first listened to this song, I interpreted it as an attack on not "stuffy, right-wing, elitist tight-wads" versus the whole freeform punk scene, but instead on the in-betweens - the not-yet initiated to either side (if Jello actually saw them, I don't know). I think the narrator is pointing out the phoniness and insecurity of one who mimicks without embracing any side. He is escaping the Man with the Dogs, who has come to rat him out to the world: He is nothing inside! An imposter with a punk's mask, a businessman's mask!

This song's about a guy who thinks so highly of himself that he thinks he's getting stalked by some guy, when it turns out that it's just some random person walking their dogs.
