This song is about denial. If you read the lyrics slowly line by line, you will find that its author cannot conclude one way or the other his own mind.

Is a prime clue here. Crying is real but the reasoning behind the tears, he quite cannot grasp. His mind is disturbed at the time and his reasoning is shot, so an endless cycle begins.

So to conclude, it is a question of whether or not you "believe" as the author doesn't quite know if you do understand his point, or if he has one at all. The eternal question mark, and damn clever.

The writer of the song (Roland) dedicated it to Robert Wyatt a musician from the group Soft Machine who was paralyzed when he fell drunk out of a 4th story window.

I adore this song, specially the last few lines. to me it says that some people don't realise the responsibility they have to give a new born baby the life it deserves, which leads to neglect and even abuse.

I think it's about people who go through their lives thinkin that their path is somewhat pre-ordained. That their destiny is to suffer,or not change their mundane lives in any way. It's also a message that you don't have to continue your life the way it is-you can change it.

Being one of the biggest TFF-fans in our country, I often look differently to their lyrics. I think that in this case he is afraid for answers or the consequences of these answers.

That why he believes. He beliefs that everything will work out eventually.
