this album came out durning my teenage years. It reminds me of those years of selfishness and angst. I still love the album even now. And yes, i am still selfish, probably even more so.
this song is as depressing as it sounds. as long as it matters is another relationship song. the guy is madly in love, but the girl isn't very responsive. they have a 1 night stand, but then there relationship appears to be over. the guy pours his heart out trying to get the girl to stay with him, but nothing comes of it. however, he knows he'll be alright at least until the night is over.
Everything is going to hell and he's losing her, but he's just trying to make the best of it, tell himself he'll be ok and take what comfort he can from her while she's still around.
Great song. Reminds me of a girl I knew for three days who changed me forever, I still think about her all the time, I'd bet she doesn't even rememeber me. I probably need counseling!

This is a good song that I never heard until I picked up their best-of compilation.
It's easy to explain the "as long as you're here with me now" part
..but what about the "as long as it matters" ? that's the title, after all. What is it that "matters"? What about the "mattering" does he take solace in? Who does is "matter" to - the guy or the girl??
